i gotta stop taking the DB like i'm fucking min maxing a strategy game
#it's gotten so bad and it actually stresses me out#just now i had the option to get out a stop earlier than my normal plan and try a 3 minute sprint from one side of the station to the other#to get a train i would usually not have gotten but that was running late#but it would have been a high risk attempt bc for the next train i would have had to wait an hour had i missed that train#(different to my original plan that also involved a 3 minute sprint but with the next train only 30 minutes later)#and bc it was high risk i decided against it#and then the train i was in (to get me to the next station in the original plan) had to wait for two minutes making Plan A impossible#and i got SO frustrated#i was like “goddammit i am such an idiot i could have definitely made the 3 minute sprint”#like. legitimately reallt frustrated#....IT'S A DIFFERENCE OF 30 MINUTES#it's not that deep#i must look like a mad man when i explain my train strategies#“so we can take Plan A but that depends on train c being about two minutes late. highly probable with the db#or Plan B where we have 20 minutes layover but at a shitty train station. instead we also have plan C where we have 30 minutes layover#and can maybe take a train one station earlier if we run but it's high risk.#oh wait a second train Z is late. this changes everything“#bitch just take the train pls#i take trains like i'm min maxing a strategy game and it is exhausting as fuck#(i also blame the DB tho bc you like. need at least one backup plan in case your train is an hour late or cancelled)#deutsche bahn#trains

Being Ego Jinpachi’s smart daughter with zero athletic skills
Disclaimer: This is a headcanon for my bestie who is a huge Ego Stan and we joked once how “damn if Ego get a kid who is awful in sports it will be a disaster” and here I am, making it reality - this is part 1
Warning: Ego is not the best dad, Kunigami and Isagi have one braincell, for now no romo, just funny vibes, platonic

○ Since the day you were born, the bar was set HIGH
○ Unfortunately the older u get the more obvious it is that your eye-legs coordination is just not existing
○ Ego is very disappointed and makes you train either way, thinking that with hard work you can still represent the level he wishes
○ Noel Noa is your godfather, but he just told Ego that maybe u will find different hobby
○ Excuse me like what?
○ However, thankfully you are very smart and developed amazing computer skills at young age
○ To bond with your dad more, you helped him with the programming of Blue Lockmans and worked hard to make the Blue Lock project work from technical point of view
○ It actually took a lot of pressure off your shoulders that your dad is so happy with progress this teenage boys are making
○ U guys have great time and you actually spend lots of time in the Blue Lock cockpit…
○ Because Damn, watching the boys is better than any telenovela on tv
○ Angst, betrayal, friendships - it has it all and you got invested af, eating popcorn while watching another episode of Team Z dramatic encounters
○ As you are similar age you also divided them into smash or pass categories in your free time
○ Until one day, because of your dad’s awful diet Anri encouraged you to go pick up some food from the Blue Lock cantine to get some actual proteins “but don’t let anyone see you”
○ Excitement went through the roof, as you cannot really leave the cockpit area
○ U wore your Blue Lock sweatshirt and sweatpants and went on your secret James Bond adventure to pick up some steak
○ Everything was doing great, because it was close to the bath/bed time, but then you accidentally met Isagi and Kunigami in the cantine and u panicked
○ However what saved u was lack of brain cells of your favourite telenovela characters
○ “Damn there are so many pretty boys in here, I didn’t think there would be another person looking like Chigiri”
○ U feel like an isekaied character just put inside your favourite novel, and decided to play your cards right
○ “ughmmm thanks bro” you lowered your voice to not get busted on the spot
○ You are absolutely clueless how anyone would take you for an athletic boy when you barely have any muscles but ok
○ U decided to eat some steak with them and try to avoid any personal questions, just asking them about their experiences so far (even when you know everything since u pretty much watch them on security cameras all the time)
○ To fish for some compliments u say stuff like “don’t u guys think the system here is amazing?? Oh my god this place is so great” but unfortunately they are just football freaks and don’t appreciate true art
○ To be fair you preferred to meet Bachira bc u liked him the most, you are a total fangirl over this bee boy, but u take what you can
○ It was getting late and you were scared that Anri would notice you on the cameras, so you decided you’d go back
○ “Oh you haven’t say from which team you are??” Isagi apparently was looking for more boys into his harem
○ “Em… Team B” you lied. “Say hi to Bachira from me” and u just waved to them and walked away.
○ After sprinting back to cockpit, apparently no one noticed how long you’ve been gone, so you deleted all of the camera footage from the encounter
○ Now just wait till they notice in second selection that there is actually, no Team B.

pursuit of happiness
college rafe x reader
Tumblr media
three times rafe is denied and one time he isn’t
this is literally just 3k words of smut
pls let me go back to writing fluff after this, i beg
(warnings: cursing, smut)
Moving in with Rafe, Topper, and Kelce was the best decision you ever made. You’d met Topper freshman year and the two of you continued to hang out after the class you had together ended. He had to endure all your complaints about your roommate and how expensive living alone the next year was going to be because you had no intention of signing another lease with her again.
Then, suddenly, he provided you with an out. The two of you were sitting in the library, sipping on coffee, taking a study break, when he interrupted your latest tirade with, “My buddies and I have an extra bedroom.”
“What?”
“One’s name is Rafe, his dad owns the house so we get to live there rent free. All we have to do is pay utilities. We’ve been looking for a fourth roommate to fill that bedroom, so if you have no issues living with three dudes, the room is yours.”
Which of course you had no fucking qualms about it, so you responded, “God yes, when can I move my stuff?”
He laughed and told you he’d talk to Rafe and Kelce about it and get back to you. Of course, you were slightly worried about living with two guys you’d never met before, but it was an opportunity you felt that you couldn’t pass up. Pushing the worries to the back of your mind, you moved in and that was that.
Kelce was very chill; his room was across from yours and the two of you shared a bathroom. He was your designated drinking buddy, both of you being huge fans of Claws, and there was an entire shelf in the fridge set aside for the two of your’s stock. Kelce also heard all your school breakdowns and swore to keep them to himself. Sometimes he’d even leave a drink outside your door and knock to let you know.
Rafe was very flirty from the jump, and you were adamant you wouldn’t make things messy in the house by hooking up with him. Then, after several months of friendship, he started showing interest in you that went past sex, and well, he was cute. You decided to give him a shot.
It was great. The two of you managed to keep things chill in the house, not letting fights get too out of hand. Plus the separate bedrooms for a degree of separation if necessary. Topper and Kelce’s one thing was that they never wanted to hear two of their closest friends have sex. That was maybe easier said than done because Rafe really liked sex.
Because of that, one finals season, your most intense one yet, led you into a predicament. To be fair, you didn’t really realize what was going on until he finally snapped.
One
Your stats class had been kicking your ass all semester. It was boring and complicated and your test grades had been dropping every test, the last being a 67. After doing the math with your professor, he told you it was still possible to get an A if you managed to get an 88 on the comprehensive final because it would replace your lowest test grade.
You had been ecstatic, but of course, that also meant you had to reteach yourself an entire semester of stats in two weeks for the final. The kitchen was your favorite stats homework place, there wasn’t the distraction of being in your room, you could play your music out loud unlike in the library or a coffee shop, and it was close to the snacks.
The guys mostly stayed out of your way, preoccupied with their own classes and spring training for football, so you got the run of the house. One afternoon, he got home from practice to see you sitting at the bar in the kitchen, chewing aimlessly at a highlighter while reading about z-scores.
Lately, both of you had been pretty busy, and the two of you hadn’t had sex in at least a week. Rafe really missed you, and watching you biting at the highlighter had him feeling some sort of way. He pushed his sweaty hair out of his face as you took it out of your mouth to highlight some important formulas.
Replacing the highlighter with your bottom lip, you started working on it instead. He gulped and quickly fixed a glass of water to drink while waiting for you to speak to him. You could feel him watching you, but there were two practice problems at the end of the section you wanted to try before taking a quick study break to greet him.
Pulling your notebook across the counter to start working them out, you let go of your lip and subconsciously poked your tongue out a little. Rafe knew it was your focus face, and normally it didn’t do anything to him, but he knew exactly what that mouth was capable of and he missed it.
With a sigh, you pushed the notebook away after checking the answers and set a ten-minute break timer on your phone. Finally smiling at Rafe, you held your arms out for him to come give you a hug. He squeezed you tight and pressed a kiss to your forehead, “How’s the studying going, babe?”
“It’s going. I’m about halfway through the semester material, so just gotta keep moving along. It is getting easier to understand and I’m getting the practice problems right more often than not, so that’s good I guess.”
Rafe brushed some hair out of your face, “Told you that you could do it.”
You smiled, “Yeah, should’ve just put some effort in the first time around. Hindsight.”
Without realizing, you’d started biting at your lip again, and before he could stop it, Rafe brought his hand up and tugged it until you let it go. Just as you were about to ask what that was about, his lips crashed onto yours.
Letting out a surprised noise, it took you a few seconds to process what was happening and start kissing back. His big hands gripped your hips and lifted you up onto the counter for a better angle as he deepened the kiss, tongue slipping into your mouth.
Your eyes fluttered as his hand traced your kneecap a few times, and you put both of your hands in his still damp hair, pulling him even closer. Rafe groaned as you wrapped your legs around his waist and crossed your ankles, keeping him close.
His mouth trailed down your neck, halfheartedly sucking as his hand stroked up and down your leg, getting closer to your core with each one. Your head fell back as he finally traced you over your underwear, and before he could apply any real pressure, your alarm went off, startling both of you.
Ripping away from his lips with a gasp, you placed a hand over your heart in attempt to steady it and dropped your legs from around his waist. Rafe put both of his hands on the counter next to you and dropped his head with a groan, “Please tell me we can keep going.”
You squeezed his shoulder sympathetically, “Afraid not, Cameron. Now go shower, you reek, and maybe after, we can order some dinner and watch TV if I can manage to get through the rest of this chapter.”
He gave a little mock salute with another dramatic sigh before disappearing into his and Topper’s shared bathroom.
Two:
One afternoon, you were sitting on the couch doing some reading for your ethics class when you decided, fuck it, the weather was so nice, it’d be a good tanning day. Rafe was out in the backyard doing a workout, so you’d have company, and you could still do the reading.
You quickly went and changed into your bikini and grabbed a towel and some sunscreen. Rafe looked up from his pushups to see you standing there and smiled at you, “What’s up, baby?”
“Gonna come tan while I read for this final and keep you company.”
He finished up and stood, “I’ll be sure to show off extra.”
You laughed, “I’ll barely be paying attention. Reading, remember?”
Rafe winked, “You say that now.”
With an eyeroll, you sat down and held out the sunscreen, “Get my back.”
He sauntered over as you opened your book back up and picked up where you’d left off. Rafe squatted down, moving your hair out of the way, and started slowly rubbing sunscreen all over your back and shoulders. You groaned at the mini massage and before he could walk away asked, “Babe, can you untie the strings in the back, I don’t want a weird tan line.”
Rafe paused, hesitating, before slowly pulling the strings until the fell to your sides. He cleared his throat, “That it?”
“Yeah, babe, thank you,” you responded, blowing him a kiss, before refocusing on your textbook.
Unbeknownst to you, Rafe was utterly distracted by you laying there. Your skin practically glowed in the sun and every time he dropped down to the ground during burpees, he got a gratuitous view of side boob. You shifted, your top twisting to where he felt he was dangerously close to seeing nipple and he gulped.
After about 10 minutes, you finished the chapter and decided to roll over for a little break. You tried to get everything back in place and flipped over, pulling the top strings over your head to stop that tan line and shielded your eyes to look at Rafe.
He was already staring at you, or your boobs, at least. You quickly double checked to make sure you weren’t giving all your neighbors’ backyards a show, and then looked at Rafe again when you were sure you weren’t.
“You gonna do some more squats or are you just going to stare at me.”
Rafe shook his head and strode over to you, squatting down next to you, “Can’t focus on proper form when you’re laying over here practically topless.”
You pouted, “Too bad, I was enjoying the show.”
He laughed and bent down over you to give you a kiss, surprised when you linked an arm around his neck to extend it longer than the peck he had planned. Switching from a squat to his knees, Rafe put more pressure into the kiss, and you tugged until he moved over you more, one leg going between yours.
You arched up so his thigh was pressed against you and started slowly grinding. Rafe growled and started slowly rubbing off on your leg. Pulling away from his lips with a gasp, you threw your head back and he picked one hand up to push your bikini top off. One of your hands slid into his hair, tugging in time with his hips.
Just as you were getting close, the back door slammed and you heard Kelce’s exasperated, “Oh my god, are you fucking kidding me?”
With a squeal, you grabbed the bikini top and covered your chest while Rafe dropped his head with a loud groan, “Dude, why?”
Kelce gave the two of you an incredulous look, “Maybe because you’re in public. The fence isn’t solid and we have kids living two houses down. Chill the fuck out, you horny bastards.”
Rafe sighed and pulled back, helping you adjust your top back, before asking, “Bedroom?” with a hopeful look on his face.
You shut your eyes, really wanting to, before shaking your head with a sigh of your own, “Can’t. I need to get through these few chapters.”
“Well I need you,” he responded with a pout.
You laughed and patted his shoulder, “Take a cold shower, buddy, maybe next time.”
Three:
It was Wednesday night which meant that it was Rafe’s night to sleep in your room. He’d been giving you some space to read over your study guides, but he was tired and wanted to spend extra time in your presence, so he went to your room fairly early and laid down in bed next to you.
What he wasn’t prepared for was for you to be propped up against the headboard wearing nothing but one of his football t-shirts, that had his name and number on the back, and a pair of panties. Your legs were sprawled way open, giving him a View when he walked in.
Rafe cursed lowly and shut the door, a little harder than necessary, causing you to look up at him in confusion. You asked, “Ready for bed already?”
He shrugged, “Wanted to spend some time with you, you’ve been so busy lately.”
You sighed, “I know, but tomorrow is my last final, so we can hang out after.”
“Hang out,” Rafe mimicked with air quotes before laying down next to you. He pressed his head into your thigh and you took the hint, starting to stroke his hair.
You went back to your reading, trying to focus because it was getting late and you wanted some good sleep before your last 8 a.m. final. After a few minutes of absentmindedly playing with his hair, you felt one of his hands pushing the hem of the shirt up your leg.
Looking over at him, you realized he wasn’t looking at your face, but at your leg as your panties came into view. Rafe reached out to touch the edge of them and you cleared your throat, swatting his hand away, “Cameron, let me finish this.”
Rafe grumbled, “No, you let me finish,” under his breath and you held in a laugh at his dramatic pout.
Going back to your reading, you ignored his pointed sighs and shifting around. When you reached the end of the study guide, you set it to the side and looked at the clock, seeing it was past 10. Rafe sat up eagerly and gently grabbed your arm, but you turned the lamp off and slid under the covers, “I have to sleep, Rafe. Early final tomorrow.”
He actually outright whined, “You’re wearing my shirt, and it’s hot, and I’m horny. Please, for the love of god, let me get off.”
“Tomorrow,” you promised, linking pinkies with him in the dark.
“Fine,” he grumbled, settling in next to you with one last huff.
+ One:
Rafe was gone to workouts when you got back from your test and you knew he wouldn’t be back for at least another 30 minutes, so you pulled your shorts off to wait for him, yet again wearing one of his football shirts.
You weren’t waiting for long after texting Rafe to come straight to your room when he got home. He burst through the door, still sweating a little and you wrinkled your nose, “Why do you never fucking shower in the locker room?” He opened his mouth to answer and you sighed, “You know what, never mind. Just come over here.”
Barely taking the time to close the door, Rafe came over, putting both of his hands on the bed and leaning down to kiss you. Dropping to his knees, Rafe started kissing down your neck and wasted no time in pushing the shirt up and tugging your panties to the side.
He stroked through your folds a few times before bending down and licking where his fingers just were. Nudging your clit with his nose, Rafe teased your entrance with his tongue and you grabbed onto his hair with a gasp.
Rafe dipped his tongue in briefly before going back to teasing you, throwing your legs over his shoulder when you tried to clamp your thighs around his head. He took his time, inserting one finger while holding you still with his other hand.
You leaned back, resting your weight on one hand behind you, the other still clinging to his hair. When he got to three fingers, he nudged your clit one more time with his nose before pulling away completely, and you cried out, trying to pull him back with your legs still around his shoulders.
“Patience, baby,” he told you, stripping completely and getting a condom. He sat on the bed and motioned for you to climb onto his lap. With shaky legs, you crawled over to where he was sitting up, against the headboard, and sank down onto him.
He exhaled shakily, hands going up to your shoulders to trace the letters of his name, and you took it as encouragement to lift up a little before sinking back down. With a groan, he leaned forward and started nipping at your neck, carelessly sucking a mark onto your collarbone.
One of his hands gripped your hip as you leaned forward so your chests were brushing and you sped up a little. Rafe groaned, a bead of sweat dripping down his temple and he pushed you back a little, stripping the shirt off fully before pulling you back to press your bare chest to his.
You were getting close, movements sloppier, and Rafe took initiative, trying to help you by thrusting his hips up in time with you. Dropping a hand, you started rubbing your clit, and Rafe snapped his hips one last time before coming, groaning loudly into the empty room.
With one last whine, you came, seconds after him, slumping forward into his chest while you tried to catch your breath. He rubbed your back gently as the two of you recovered and you smiled, pressing a gentle kiss to his collarbone, “There, was that what you wanted?”
Rafe laughed, “Yes, thank you, sweetheart.”
Climbing off his lap, you motioned toward the door, “Good, now you can go shower because for real, you reek. Please use the showers in the locker room, I’m sure some of my tuition money funds those facilities.”
He stood up and held a hand out to you, “Share a shower?”
You stared at his hand for a few seconds, pretending to debate, and he huffed before reaching down to lift you off the bed. With a squeal, you told him, “Put me down, you can’t just manhandle me.”
Rafe laughed and carried you to the bathroom, “Come on, baby, you know you love showering with me.”
“Only because it’s good for the environment.”

A Hellish Encounter
By Drazzilder
Chapter 34: School Life
It’s May and it’s your first day helping students with their quirks. You’re a little worried about how your day will go so Enji took the day off to make sure everything goes well. Even though you can teleport, it’s nice to walk with Enji to help calm your mind. Zaheer is even walking with you today but he seems to only slow you down.
“Zaheer, did you have to eat at every stand we passed by, you’re going to make us late” Enji says with a disappointing tone.
“I’m sorry, I’m just so hungry. Human food always comes in such small portions. And every time I take physical form, it uses a lot of energy.”
“And this is where all of my paycheck goes.” You say patting Zaheer’s abdomen.
“Do I need to give you raise?”
“Well, I can just go to you for more money.”
“I hope you didn’t marry me for my money.” Enji says pulling you close with one arm.
“I could care less about money. I’d say we could be broke and I’d be happy but we need some money to feed this guy.” You say point back to Zaheer.
“Sorry….” He says with a mouth full of food.
“It’s fine Zaheer, I’m just giving you a hard time. I don’t mind that you eat a lot, I just don’t want to be late. I want to make sure I do this right.”
“You’ll be fine.”
“It does make me feel better that your coming. I know Nezu said he has a room for me but I doubt it will be the same as you.”
“I know. I can’t be here everyday but I’ll will try to be here when I can, ok?”
“Thank you.” You say leaning against Enji while walking.
You arrive at AU and Nezu and Midnight greet you at the entrance.
N: “Good morning Hellboy! I’m glad you decided to help our students. I know you have your reservations but I promise that we have taken every precaution. Midnight will be there if you get out of control and I see Endeavor is with you as well.”
(Y/N): “Glad to be here. What will be doing today?”
M: “Oh! So heroic to just get right to the task! Fills me with so much joy!”
E: “Calm down Midnight, Hellboy just wants to get started. He is a little nervous.”
N: “That’s fine. The first student you will be working with is Mirio Togata. He has a very powerful quirk but is having trouble using it. He has gotten better but it is his second year here. If we could help him control it better, he could be a great hero.”
(Y/N): “That sounds exactly like the student I want to help. Where to?”
N: “We are going to the same training room you used before. Right this way.”
You all go to the training room where you meet Mirio. He is clearly is excited to meet you.
MO: “Nice you meet you Hellboy! I’m happy to have this opportunity to help me.”
(Y/N): “Well, very nice to meet you too. I like your positive energy. I’m sorry if this is annoying but I need to ask about your quirk.”
MO: “No problem there. My quirk is permeation. I can pass through anything but I have trouble. It is very hard to use this quirk when in battle. The problem is that I can fall though the floor too easily when fighting. It has gotten me into trouble on more than one occasion.”
E: “That is a interesting quirk, what do you think Hellboy.”
(Y/N): “This sounds like a good opportunity for me. Please, sit down.”
You both sit down as everyone watches. You hold his hands and begin to gain control of Mirio’s body. Suddenly his body falls through the floor as you gain control. Everything is dark as you fall. You try to breath to calm down but you can’t. As you continue to fall, you begin to panic but then you come up with an idea. You try to leave a little control to Mirio and ask for help. “Mirio, stop your quirk. I can’t figure it out if I can’t breath.” You manage to think.
“No problem!” Suddenly you pop back up to the surface. You come to a standing position and see everyone with faces of either relief or shock. You look down to see why, your naked in his body. Quickly putting on his pants, you start to understand his quirk a bit.
(Y/N): “Sorry if I scared you all. I couldn’t control his quirk. Right now we are sharing control till I can understand how this quirk works.”
M: “You could control mine right away. What’s different?”
Z: “Every quirk is different. Some are inherently easier to control than others. It seems this boy’s quirk is difficult even for Hellboy.”
(Y/N): “That seems to be what I’m feeling, what about you Mirio.”
MO: “This is really fun. It’s really weird having another person inside of me.”
E: “Ok, now I’m getting a little worried. You’re both in control?”
(Y/N): “It’s no different than what Zaheer and I do. Ok, let’s try something. Zaheer, I need you to attack me.”
Z: “Why am I always the test subject.” He says walking up to you.
(Y/N): “Because I can’t hurt you and you’re immortal. Now go.”
Zaheer hesitates at first but then slowly pulls back to punch you in the face. Right before he makes contact, you fall to your left. Zaheer stops and looks down to see your left leg in the ground. He reaches his hand to get you up.
Z: “I think I know what you’re trying to do. It’s like your body, actively thinking about control of your quirk.”
E: “Interesting.”
N: “What do you mean, Zaheer?”
Z: “You unintentionally found (Y/N)’s perfect first student. I’m only telling you this because I was told I can trust you. He has to use his mind/body control constantly because he is fully paralyzed. No one could possibly understand how much mental capacity it takes to think about every muscle when moving. Mirio’s quirk seems to be similar, having to constantly concentrate on using it.”
(Y/N): “I was trying to make his head to phase through your hand but I accidentally made his left leg phase through the floor.”
N: “Now this is fascinating.”
(Y/N): “Again Zaheer, I think I might have it.”
Zaheer goes again for a slow wind up and tries to hit you. That’s when he punches straight through Mirio’s head. Zaheer stumbles a bit from not making contact but then goes for another in the gut. You do manage to not only make his fist go through the boys abdomen but also land a hit on Zaheer’s face. It wasn’t hard, just enough for Zaheer to feel it.
E: “That’s good. How do you feel Hellboy.”
(Y/N): “I feel fine but I don’t want to stay inside him too long.” You then go fully back to your body.
MO: “That’s a funny feeling. Mr. Hellboy, how do you feel?”
(Y/N): “I’m fine. I believe I found out a way to help you with your quirk. It might take a few more sessions in order to master it but I feel like we are on a good path. Your quirk can be very powerful but it requires a great amount of thought.”
N: “Great! This is what I wanted to hear. Why don’t we all go to my office and start on a plan for Mirio to help him along. After that, I might have a few more students for you Hellboy.”
E: “I’d feel comfortable with Hellboy only controlling one student a day.”
(Y/N): “I agree, I’ll admit I do feel a little dizzy from that.”
N: “Ok, take the rest of the day off then. If we can only do one student a day then we will work with that.”
(Y/N): “Thank you Nezu. Have a good day everyone. It was nice meeting you Mirio.”
MO: “Thanks Mr. Hellboy. I can’t wait for our next session!”
Zaheer goes back into you to help with your dizziness and Enji takes you to the teachers lounge to rest for a moment.
“You did great today, (Y/N).”
“Thanks. I’m glad didn’t hurt him. I feel for him, his quirk takes so much thought to use.”
“I’m glad you can help him.”
“Zaheer, do you have anything to say?”
“I knew you could do it. Plus you didn’t lose control. You’re getting better at balancing your quirks.”
“Thanks. I’m just happy I can use this power that hurt so many to help people instead.”
“What do you want to do now, we have the rest of the day off?” Enji says while taking a quick glance at his watch.
“Can we just hang out. We haven’t done that in a while.”
“Sure, anywhere in particular?”
“Let’s just walk and see where it takes us. Let’s go home and change into normal clothes first.”
You teleport back home and both change into something more normal: something spring. You’re in jeans with a light jacket while Enji is also wearing jeans, he just has his favorite white button down shirt with the sleeves rolled up. You hardly get to see him in jeans so it’s a sight you want to savor. He must have had them tailored because they are hugging him in all the right ways. You manage to break your gaze long enough to get out of the house and begin walking. You have no goal in mind, just walking and following what interests you. You have been walking for about an hour; Enji is busy on a phone call with Sanji and you’re listening to your favorite K Pop song with your earbuds. The music is taking over your mind as you walk and dance to the beat. Even though your eyes are closed, your holding Enji’s hand to make sure you do don’t run into anything. However, Enji must be really into his phone call because he doesn’t notice someone run into you. You bump heads and both end up on the ground. You don’t know what hurts more, banging your head or landing on your tail. Sitting up and rubbing your head, you look at the man who ran into you.
“(Y/N)? Is it really you?”
“Alan?”

Float Like A Butterfly... Ch.4 Switching Targets
Summary:
Adrien follows the advice of his friend.
---------------
"Did you see the new theory on the Ladyblog?"
"The one about Panthera?"
"Yeah! Think it's true?"
"Dunno man. Why would Ladybug switch partners all of a sudden?"
"Well, duh! 'Cause-"
The voices faded as Adrien's fencing teammates passed him on their way to the lockers. Knuckles white as he strangled the strap of his gym bag. Heart beating in his throat.
I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.
Inhaling deeply through his nose, Adrien let his breath out slowly; grip relaxing.
He wasn't subscribed to the Ladyblog anymore. At first he just ignored it but after Panthera's appearance Alya had something concrete to speculate on. Her enthusiasm practically radiated through the screen, forming a pit in Adrien's stomach. It was too much.
Trying to shove such thoughts out of his head he hurried after his teammates.
---------------
Adrien landed on his back for the third time in a row. Despite having the wind knocked out of him, he barely registered it. His movements were sloppy, his mind unfocused and instead of the competitive drive that usually fueled his training Adrien felt... nothing. Not for fencing, at least.
"Way too predictable." Kagami tested her saber before stepping back to her side of the fencing strip.
Slowly, Adrien stood up again, setting his stance. He lunged, she evaded. Again she won and they started over. Never once did he score a hit throughout the entire practice.
As everyone else filed out of the locker room Adrien sat, shoulders slumped as he stared at nothing through his fencing mask.
"What's going on, Adrien?" Kagami stood in front of him, already changed. "I usually enjoy defeating you but it's no fun if you make it that easy."
I hate you. I hate you. I hate you.
"Do you ever get the feeling that you're stuck, Kagami?" Father. "That... no matter what you do," Nathalie, "it's the same old story over and over again?" The Guardian. "That things will never, ever change?"
Surprise flickered in Kagami's eyes as Adrien removed his fencing mask. He stared at the floor, not expecting an answer, but still she took a seat beside him. Closing her eyes, Kagami took a moment to order her thoughts.
"Adrien. The biggest mistake a fencer can make isn't choosing the wrong technique, it's choosing the wrong target." Gently, she lifted his face to look him in the eye. "Change targets," she smiled softly.
Something sparked in Adrien's eyes and a small smile answered Kagami's. All this time Adrien had wasted energy on people who always wanted more. Trying his best to please them and still they found him lacking. Now, here was Kagami, who'd rejected the concept of second chances, giving him another. In spite of his abysmal performance in her greatest passion she didn't leave him.
Before he knew it Adrien's arms wrapped around her in a grateful embrace. Kagami stiffed at the sudden contact, arms tense and outstretched. Although Adrien's expression was obscured by his hair Kagami thought she knew what it was.
Slowly, awkwardly, she let her hands fall, relaxing her shoulders. Pink dusting her cheeks as Kagami returned his embrace. It was... nice.
---------------
Adrien grinned as he took the stairs in front of school two at a time. After going home yesterday, he thought about what Kagami said. Glancing around the courtyard Adrien spotted Alya and Nino sitting next to each other, Marinette walking up beside them.
If he was going to change targets then who better to ask for help than his friends?
"Hey, guys."
"Dude!" Nino launched himself at Adrien and hugged him tight, causing them to stumble.
A grin spread across Adrien's face. "What? We just saw each other yesterday."
Releasing his hold to fix his cap, Nino muttered. "Well, it feels longer."
"You know I'd be the first one to call my boyfriend dramatic but he's got a point." Alya shrugged with her arms as Marinette nodded.
Smile slipping just a little Adrien pushed the guilt away. "I wanted your help with something."
"Anything bro, you name it!" Nino placed his hands on Adrien's shoulders, getting his full attention.
"You know I see Kagami a lot, right?"
Nino's brow furrowed as he thought. "The scary girl that beats you up all the time?"
Adrien chuckled. "She's not scary. Kagami just has trouble talking to people. So I thought, maybe we could invite her somewhere to meet everyone!"
"Uhhhh..." Nino's eyes flicked to something behind Adrien.
But when Adrien turned around it was just Alya cleaning her glasses.
"I mean, sure dude. If you think that's a good idea?"
"Really!?" Adrien beamed. "What do you think we should do?"
"The Ice Queen?" Marinette whispered.
"Huh?" Adrien turned around at the sound of her voice.
"Ice rink! Yeah, that's what I said, we should all go to the ice rink!" Marinette glanced nervously between Nino and Alya. Giving Adrien finger guns. "No better place to break the ice than the ice rink! Right!?"
"The ice rink." Adrien tapped his chin in thought. "Sounds fun! You think everyone else will be up for it?"
"Yeah, sure Adrien!" Alya smiled, glancing pointedly at Nino.
"That's great! I can't wait to go to the ice rink together!" Waving, Adrien practically sprinted to tell his classmates.
The voice silent for the first time in weeks.
---------------
"What just happened?" Alya glanced between Nino and Marinette.
"I think my bro just got our help on a friend date?"
Marinette groaned. "I can't believe I called her that to Adrien's face, er, back! What if he heard me?"
"Maybe Kagami isn't as uncool as you think she is, dudette. I mean, Adrien thinks she's totally legit." Nino removed his cap to scratch the top of his head.
"Yeah but he's also friends with Chloe," Alya pointed out. "... Actually, she's been less unbearable lately."
Nino gestured in a 'There see!' fashion.
Sighing, Alya leaned her head back on the bench. "You totally ignored my signals, by the way."
"Dude, Adrien wants to hang out!" Nino exclaimed. "You know I can't say no to that!"
Pulling her boyfriend back onto the bench with her, Alya wrapped an arm around Nino's shoulders. "Yeah, I know."
And she did. Nino spent more time than anyone with Adrien. Whenever Adrien couldn't make it, which recently was all the time, Nino talked to her about it.
Turning to look at Marinette, who was glancing at her purse, Alya asked. "You gonna be okay, girl?"
Marinette jumped but quickly recovered. "Oh! Uh, yeah. Adrien's only inviting her as friends, right? And everyone else is going to be there, too. So, it's not like they'll be alone together. Everything's fine!"
---------------
Everything was not fine. Marinette looked out at the Seine while Luka's melody filled the air. She didn't understand why she came here; the memory of Panthera was still fresh. Which made her think of Chat N- Which made her even more miserable.
"Do you feel kinda like this?" Luka continued the melancholy tune he played for her.
Yes, Marinette did feel that way. Adrien was so happy at the idea of introducing Kagami to their friends. Of spending more time with her. Even if it was only as friends, Adrien never invited anyone anywhere besides Nino.
Walking up beside her Luka switched into something more upbeat. "Personally, I think a girl like you deserves to feel more like this."
Sitting down, Marinette enjoyed the simple melody.
"And whoever made you feel this way is nothing but a-" Luka riffed on his guitar.
Giggling, Marinette covered her mouth. "Thanks Luka... Say, are you free tomorrow?"
---------------
"First one to skate around the rink wins!"
"You're on!"
Alix and Kim took off at top speed.
"Your friends have a healthy competitive spirit, Adrien." Kagami's eyes followed the two racers as they sped up. Almost crashing into the skating instructor as they circled around him.
"Could do with a little less competitive spirit, if you know what I mean?" Nino interjected.
"If they require structure perhaps I could invite them to join the fencing team," Kagami suggested. "I find fencing serves as a great outlet for excess energy."
"Wouldn't hurt to give it another shot," Alya thought aloud. "D'Argencourt has tried to get those two interested without much luck, though."
"I am certain Adrien and I can be more persuasive."
Blinking, Adrien pointed at himself. "Me?"
"Would you not like to have more friends on the team?"
Surprise morphing into excitement Adrien nodded enthusiastically. Hurrying over with Kagami to where Kim was telling a smug Alix how he'll beat her next time.
"I have to admit," Alya leaned recklessly onto Nino's shoulder. "Sunshine is really earning back his nickname."
Nodding, Nino adjusted their course so they wouldn't bump into Ivan and Mylene. "I haven't seen my bro this thrilled in... Heck, I don't even know."
"She really makes him that happy, huh?"
Alya turned to see Marinette behind them, gazing dejectedly after Adrien. Luka resolutely by her side. Alya skated closer to comfort her best friend and-
"Hey, there! Name's Philippe! Would any of you be interested in professional skating lessons?"
Alya almost crashed into the skating instructor as he materialized between her and Marinette. "Uh, not right now. Marinette?" Catching a glimpse of Marinette disappearing into the exit Alya hurried after her. Leaving Nino and Luka to fend off the pestering instructor.
Adrien stared after them.
"It's great that your friend Kim will be joining us isn't it. Adrien?"
"Huh? Oh, right!" Adrien was brought back to himself by Kagami. "But he only agreed 'cause Alix said he'd flunk out during tryouts."
"Regardless, he agreed. And I am curious about these 'challenges' as he calls them." Kagami took on a faraway look as she imagined what someone as impulsive as Kim might consider a challenge.
Adrien smirked. "I don't know whether to be proud or worried."
Returning his smug expression with one of her own, Kagami was glad she accepted Adrien's invitation to hang out with his classmates.
Then the screaming started.
Ice covered everything in seconds, from the windows to the ceiling. To Adrien's friends.
"Now all of Paris will be Frozer's own personal ice rink!" The villain crowed. His eyes scanned the people who remained unfrozen. "But first!"
Adrien felt someone shove him to the ground, the ice sapping his body heat even through his clothes. He looked up and saw Kagami inside a giant icicle. Arms outstretched to push him out of the way of the magic spikes that Frozer launched in all directions. Freezing everyone else before he skated away.
"NO!" Adrien's fist slammed into Kagami's icy prison. And kept striking. "No, no no no no no no!"
I hate you! I hate you! I hate you!
"Adrien? That you?" Luka coughed as the rapidly dropping temperature sapped the moisture from the air. "Whoa! Easy!" He lifted his hands in surrender as Adrien whirled around with fists raised.
"Luka..." Adrien came back to himself slowly. "How're you not frozen?"
Slowly grabbing Adrien's right hand Luka lifted it to eye level. "Same way you did, I guess." The knuckles were bloody. Not a lot but enough. "Hiding behind someone who was already frozen."
Adrien snatched his hand back. "I wasn't hiding!" he snapped.
"I know, sorry." Luka held his hands up placatingly. "I just meant..."
"I... I know." Adrien kept his eyes downcast. "I'm sorry."
"...We should look for help." Luka glanced at the windows opaque with ice. "There must be someone left who can get them out."
But Adrien was gazing at Kagami's frozen face. Even through the refraction he could see the determination in her eyes. "You go. I'll stay here and... do what I can."
Luka glanced at Adrien's split knuckles, wanting to at least bandage it. He got the feeling, though, that Adrien wouldn't let him. "Take care of that," he said, pointing. And dashed off.
I hate you.
Adrien tore one of his overshirt's sleeves off and fastened it into a makeshift bandage. He didn't know what good it would do. Only a dull pressure came from his hand. Not even noticing he was injured until Luka grabbed it.
I hate you.
Carefully, deliberately, Adrien sat on the ice. Cold shooting into his flesh like a thousand needles. Ignoring the numbness Adrien untied his skates and pulled them off his shoes.
I hate you.
Slowly, Adrien slid himself closer to Kagami. Heat being sapped from his body. Raising the skate overhead Adrien brought the blade down on the ice with an echoing CRACK!
I hate you!
CRACK!
I hate you!
CRACK!
I hate you!
CRACK!
I HATE YOU!
C R A C K!
---------------
Ladybug shot back towards the ice rink as fast as her yo-yo would go. The Black Cat Miraculous clutched tightly in hand.
Everything was frozen. In no time at all Paris, and every person in it, was covered in ice. And her prime candidate for Miraculous holders were all at ground zero.
Someone had to be there. They had to be!
"LADYBUG!"
There, right in front of her destination, was a familiar head of cyan hair.
Ladybug tensed as the memory of their battle with Captain Hardrock came rushing back. Shaking such unfair thoughts from her mind she swung down to him.
"Luka, were are the others?" Ladybug had made up her mind as she raced back. Alya was the only one who-
"They're all frozen!" Luka informed her, brow furrowed in concern.
A chill went up Ladybug's spine that had nothing to do with the cold. "Fr-frozen?"
"Please, Ladybug," Luka pleaded. "You have to help us get them out."
Alya was frozen? No, but Marinette needed her help! Zombizou had gone terribly and Ladybug needed a Black Cat anyway or everything would be off. That's why Chat Noir- A chill gripped her chest and Ladybug clenched her teeth. That's why Chat Noir was chosen in the first place. They weren't meant to work alone.
"It's not regular ice." Ladybug's voice sounded far away even to her own ears. "The only way to free everyone is to defeat the akuma victim!"
"Then we're in good hands. You have a perfect track record, after all."
Ladybug stared at the untainted trust in his eyes... "I can't do it by myself!" She shook her head to clear it. "I need someone else!" Someone like Alya.
"Oh..." Luka frowned as he went over Ladybug's words.
She needed a temporary holder to give a Miraculous. And everyone else was frozen. Except Adrien, but Luka didn't want to decide for Ladybug. So he stood there in silent frustration at being useless. Not voicing the obvious solution. Possibly, it didn't even occur to him.
And it came to Ladybug only slightly faster.
Suddenly jerking into action Ladybug grabbed Luka's hand and placed the octagonal box in his palm. "You remember what to do, right?
Eyes widening, Luka gave a single nod as he opened it.
---------------
Ice Ladybug and Ice Panthera skated side-by-side across the frozen city. Every surface covered in a layer of ice.
"We need to set up a trap for whoever turned the city into a giant ice rink," Ladybug said as they leapt from one rooftop to another.
"It was Philippe, the skating instructor," Panthera informed her. "Where should we set the trap?"
Thinking for a moment, Ladybug pointed toward the Eiffel Tower. With a nod Panthera followed Ladybug's lead. As he shadowed her their hands grazed and she snatched it back instinctively. Panthera said nothing but it stuck like a thorn in Ladybug's mind.
Landing on the frozen surface of the Seine Ladybug scanned their surroundings. "What can I use for a trap?" she asked herself.
She needed to focus. Just push everything aside and beat the akuma villain. Like always. Like-
"Look out!"
Panthera tackled her out of the way as Frozer's skate blade slammed into his left arm. He screamed as his arm was covered in ice.
"Panthera!" Ladybug launched her yo-yo at Frozer's face, forcing the supervillain to back away momentarily.
"Ladybug and Panthera! Your frozen statues will sparkle like trophies upon my kingdom of ice!"
Grabbing Panthera's uninjured hand Ladybug sped away from the villain. Frozer hot on their heels. With a rapid series of kicks he sent icicles sailing after the heroes, forcing them apart.
"I'm positive the akuma's in his skates!" Ladybug called out as Frozer jumped over a bridge and launched more icicles from midair. "He's too fast!"
Turning sharply around a barge stuck in the middle of the river to obscure Frozer's line of sight Ladybug pulled Panthera behind it. Frozer speeding past before realizing his quarry was gone.
---------------
 "What's the plan Ladybug?"
They hid behind a van after putting a few streets between them and Frozer.
Plan, plan, Ladybug needed a plan! "Lucky Charm!" A bag of salt fell into her hands, some of the white grains falling out.
"Salt makes ice melt!" Ladybug exclaimed, an idea instantly forming in her mind's eye.
Panthera smiled tightly, clutching his frozen arm. "I knew you could figure it out."
"But first..." Ladybug grabbed a handful of salt and rubbed it on Panthera's arm.
"W-wait! Don't we need that?"
"Won't do us any good if you get frostbite halfway through your part of the plan." Any other protests Panthera had were silenced by the sigh of relief that escaped him as the ice melted. Taking his belt Ladybug fashioned it into a makeshift sling for his arm. "There."
"Thank you, Ladybug." Panthera's smile was a little less forced.
Ignoring the messy mix of emotions in her gut Ladybug smiled back. "Right. Here's what you need to do."
---------------
Ladybug posed on a bridge, just above the supervillain. "Waiting for you, Frozer!"
Grinning, Frozer jumped up after her. "Don't play with fire, Ladybug!"
Frozer was faster than her. So Ladybug goaded him into doing every trick she did, slowing him down just enough. Sliding under a bench limbo style, using an outcrop of ice as a ramp, jumping through a car's open doors.
"Ladybug," Panthera called from the communicator in her ear. "It's ready!"
Turning back towards the Seine, Ladybug called over her shoulder. "This next one is tricky!"
"Don't make me laugh!"
Ladybug slid along the ladder of the firetruck Panthera pushed into place. Twisting in midair to wrap her yo-yo on one of the rungs as she leapt off. Just in time for Frozer to fall into her trap.
Pulling on her yo-yo, Ladybug sent Frozer into the air. The unexpected change of momentum catching him off guard.
"Cataclysm!"
And giving Panthera the opening he needed.
Next came the easy part.
"Miraculous Ladybug!"
---------------
Adrien's fingers were cold even through his gloves. His legs were worse. The skate he used to break the tiniest piece of ice from Kagami's prison lay discarded next to him.
Mocking, accusing.
I hate you.
He gave everything he had into breaking Kagami out and it wasn't enough. It was never enough!
Pressing his forehead against the fractured ice that encased Kagami, Adrien squeezed his eyes shut. "I'm sorry."
Warmth flowed around him as a bright light shone through his eyelids. The numbness vanishing as though it was never there. Stumbling at the sudden shift Adrien felt someone's arms hold him upright.
Kagami stared at him as the ladybugs flew back to wherever they came from. "Adrien? What-"
"Kagami!" Without thinking Adrien pulled her into a hug. "You're okay!"
That was the second time in as many days Adrien had hugged her. Kagami felt a rising heat bloom across her cheeks. Scanning the rink, she saw the rest of Adrien's classmates in similar displays of relief. Which alleviated her self-consciousness.
Trembling. Adrien was trembling, shoulders shaking as he held back tears. Adjusting her grip, Kagami held him closer. "It is alright, Adrien. It is over."
Adrien shook his head. "I couldn't..." he said under his breath. "I couldn't do anything!"
Memories flickered through Kagami's mind. The shame she felt after 'losing' to Adrien when they first met. Her Mother's unyielding stance on anything she deemed trivial. Moving to France and leaving her home behind. All brought out the same sense of hopelessness she heard in Adrien's voice.
She didn't let go until he stopped shaking.
---------------
"Put that there. And that there. Careful with that! This new indoor gym is a gift to my Chloe- Er, the people of Paris! Everything must be perfect!"
Mayor Andre directed the construction workers while Philippe sat dejectedly out of the way.
Marinette stared in much the same mood at Adrien and Kagami. Most of her friends had already left. Leaving just the three of them plus Luka.
"I think you were right, Kagami." Adrien smiled bittersweetly. "It's time I changed targets."
"I look forward to seeing it," Kagami replied. Leaning up, she kissed Adrien's cheek before entering her car.
Adrien stared after her, a hand pressed against the ghost of her kiss.
A twisting sensation in her stomach worsened Marinette's mood.
"Do you wanna take the subway together, Marinette?" Luka asked.
Marinette continued staring after Adrien as his car pulled up.
"Hmm?" Luka followed Marinette's line of sight to Adrien. He smiled knowingly. "You should probably go over and talk to him. Thanks for inviting me out today."
Blinking, Marinette realized what he was saying."Thanks for coming with me, Luka." She gave him a kiss on the cheek as apology. Then dashed after Adrien's car. "Adrien!"
---------------
I hate you.
Adrien rubbed the stretched skin where his Miraculous used to be. The band on his finger was barely paler than the rest of his hand. Soon it would vanish completely, the only proof he ever wielded a Miraculous.
I hate you.
Pain sparked across his other hand and Adrien winced at the phantom memory. Odd that his injury hurt more now than when he still had it. But even if he didn't remember the ache his body did.
I hate you.
What did stand out in Adrien's mind was the jolt that ran through his cold limbs as he brought the blade of his skate down onto the ice. The intensity of his desperation so strong he was choking on it.
I hate you!
Not that it amounted to anything.
"It is alright, Adrien. It is over."
Except... it was okay. Ladybug fixed it. And it was good that she did. He didn't... Adrien didn't need to fix it.
A jolt ran through his spine. Shocking the tears he'd held back in front of his friends out. Adrien completely and utterly failed. That hurt. So much he could barely stand it. But... it wasn't the end of the world.
Adrien failed and that... was okay.
Pulling his knees to his chest and wrapping his arms around them, Adrien let his tears burn tracks down his face. Ambivalent emotions rolled like cresting waves. It wasn't a new idea exactly. But Adrien never thought of applying it to himself.
It was exhilarating. It was terrifying. Maybe... Maybe it was true. Maybe he could move on from people who demanded perfection. Maybe he didn't need to stay frozen in place.
Maybe it was okay for Adrien Agreste to not be perfect.

Notes:
On the other hand, I do very much ship Adrigami and there is a non zero chance that it could happen... But it's unclear.

If You Ever Come Back - Softober/Angstober (12/31)
A/N: SORRY FOR THE BOMBARDMENT OF ZOYALAI BUT HAVE MORE ROLE SWAP AU NO ONE ASKED FOR  LAJSDFLJAS
Based on the prompt ‘Hate’ and ‘Warm’ from the Angstober/Softober list.
Word count: 2914
AO3
The first time Zoya had held a sword was when she was ten.
It was a bit late, if she were to be asked. She had wanted to learn sword-fighting ever since she was six and had taken a liking to sneaking off her lessons and watching the royal guards and soldiers spar with each other in the training arena instead.
Queen Liliyana had never reprimanded her about it, but Zoya was told that she was still too little to wield weapons almost as big as her, and so she patiently waited for that time to come. Liliyana had given Zoya a handmade wooden sword on her eighth birthday, as a makeshift weapon for a while before she was allowed to hold a real one.
And when she finally did, nothing could explain the delight she felt that day.
But she never thought that along with it would come along an infuriating young boy that seemed to just know everything.
It had been early in the morning, and Zoya was already in the arena, buzzing with excitement and energy as she tried to weigh the personalized sword given to her by the Queen, made by one of the best blacksmiths in the kingdom. The weapon felt light and heavy at the same time, and it was definitely much different than the wooden one she had grown accustomed to.
She eyed the crafted metal in awe, the Z on the pommel glinting bright gold as she held it up to the light. It was truly one of the most beautiful things she’d ever seen.
“Let’s see how sharp you are,” she said, walking over to one of the training dummies on the platform. She rolled her wrists to hold it tightly in both her hands, and then she raised the sword to strike—
The sound of the wooden doors slamming open and shut startled Zoya that the sword almost slipped from her hands.
She whirled around, teeth gritted and ready to go on with a verbal battle to the person who dared to come barging in the arena, but stopped when she noticed a figure crouched down behind the doors. By their stance, it looked like they were trying to hide from something or someone, their ear pressed against the wooden surface.
Who dared to disturb her here?
Voices and footsteps echoed outside of the arena, and for one fleeting moment, Zoya saw whoever it was on the door go completely still. She raised an eyebrow. Who in the saints' name was this person?
She waited until the noise from outside faded in the distance, and let another moment pass just to make sure that whoever this person was hiding from was gone.
Then with a sharp tone, Zoya called out, "Excuse me."
The figure jolted. There was a loud thud and an "ow", and the person fell back on the ground, rubbing at their forehead.
Not a person, she considered with an eye-roll. But an idiot.
By this time, Zoya was getting impatient and annoyed. Her morning was supposed to be spent in peace while trying to train by herself. But now it was ruined.
The idiot stood, hand still on their forehead, and faced her. That was the only time she noticed that it was a young boy.
          A young idiotic boy.
"Excuse me," Zoya repeated, but with much sharper this time. Show manners, but make sure they hear your tone. She put a hand on her hip. "But who are you and why are you here?"
The boy still had a wince on his face as he continued to rub his forehead. She eyed him closely. He wasn't from the palace, Zoya was sure, as she was familiar to all the people residing there. Unless he was with the visitors from one of the neighboring kingdoms that arrived here a few days ago.
But considering how he looked, the boy wasn't dressed like a royal she had expected him to be. His undershirt was a rumpled mess and there were a lot of dark stains at the front, and his breeches had been untucked from his boots.
          If he were an intruder—
Zoya gripped at her sword tightly. She had a weapon with her, he wouldn't dare to do anything.
The boy walked towards her, coming into the light, and Zoya pointed her sword down at him. Thankfully, this had him stop in his place just below the dais. His blond hair almost looked white out in the open.
"Should I repeat my question, or you just lost your ability to speak?" She glared at him, the kind that could make other people cower, but the boy seemed to be immune to it. Definitely not a person. "Don't make me use this to you."
The boy huffed a nervous laugh, raising both hands in surrender. "I'm, uh—" He frowned, his eyes on her hand gripping the sword.
Zoya's jaw twitched in irritation. "Hey."
"Ah, right. Yes, I'm Nicky. That's my name. I'm with one of the visitors from Fjerda," he blabbered, the words coming out in a tangled mess. Then he pointed a finger to her sword. "And that's not how you hold a sword properly. Is that your dominant hand?"
Her anger flared up, and Zoya scoffed. The audacity of this boy to come barge in the arena without permission, and now he was going to lecture her on how to hold a weapon?
One thing became clear in her mind: she hated this Nicky already.
"I could punch you with my dominant hand," she said, "and in that case you'd know."
"Left hand, then." Nicky tried to walk up the dais, but Zoya held the sword steady to his chest. "Easy, princess, I wouldn't want to die just yet without seeing the annoyed face of my big brother when he realizes that his carriage is missing a wheel."
Another thought cleared: he talked too much.
"How did you know who I am?"
"Not really hard to know." Nicky gestured above his head with a twirl of a finger. He gave her a grin. "You still have your crown on."
Her free hand shot up to her head, and, true enough to what the boy said, she had her small crown on.
Zoya sighed exasperatedly over her foolishness. It had been an instinct to put on her crown every time she woke up in the morning. Perhaps she should only wear it when needed.
She took off the crown and settled it over the dummy's head. When she turned, Nicky was already on the dais, posture at ease as if she hadn't threatened him with her sword just now.
"Did your parents even tell you about personal space?" Zoya demanded, tone almost a snarl.
There was a flash of hurt in his hazel eyes for a moment, but it was gone as soon as she could blink. He recovered with another grin that made her want to punch him in the face. "They did, but I think that would be at least a foot away from you, Princess, and I am currently very far from your arm's reach."
Zoya found the punching thought very convenient now. "Alright, Mister Know-It-All, do you mind? I need to train."
          "By yourself?"
"Do you have any problem with that?"
Nicky shook his head quickly. "No, not really," he replied. He raised a closed hand, tapping at his wrist. "I just noticed your grip, it's a bit stiff and shaky. You wouldn't want that." He shrugged when he noticed her flat stare at him. "I am quite fond of sword fighting too, Princess."
Zoya deadpanned. "Oh, I thought talking too much is your expertise."
"That too, I might add. My instructors hate it." He winked, and then he gestured to her sword. "May I?" When she glared at him, Nicky immediately added, "You can trust me."
          "How about no?"
To Zoya’s surprise, he laughed loudly like she hadn't just rejected his request. He seemed to consider everything funny to him. "Okay, fair," he said. "But just for a moment? I'll show you then I'll leave you to train in peace, I promise."
She considered it for a moment, realizing that whether she agreed or not, Nicky wasn't going to leave anytime soon and she'd have to endure his presence for a bit longer. Or she could just kick him out. She was the Princess, anyway.
The latter actually sounded good to her, but still she found herself handing her sword to the infuriating boy with an exasperated breath. She'd humor him for a bit and hope that he stick to his word and leave her alone after.
"Take it before I change my mind in about a split second."
Nicky's eyes lit up, and he grinned as he took the weapon. "Don't worry, you won't regret it."
It was quite true, much to Zoya's disappointment. Even though he could have explained some techniques in several words, she found his random blabbers funny and entertaining, and she could notice that he really indeed was fond of swords in the way he spoke.
There were still times that she wanted to kick him out of the arena when his jokes became too exhausting and she'd threaten to make him leave, but Nicky would just laugh it off and go back to explaining.
A few hours passed, or probably longer than that, but they didn't notice that much until the doors to the arena barged open again.
Zoya let out a frustrated breath, turning to the door with a glare. "What?" She recovered quickly when she saw that it was one of the guards in the Palace. Her frown disappeared. "What is it?"
"Your Highness," the guard said, dropping to a bow. Then he turned to Nicky with a grim expression. "My lord, the prince is looking for you. He is quite…furious."
Nicky was silent, and then he laughed lightly. "I was wondering how long it'd take before he sends someone to come find me. He's a bit slower than I expected him to be." He turned to Zoya. He tossed the sword to his other hand and, with ease, flipped it around so that the tip was pointing downwards, before he handed the pommel to her.
She took it with a huff. "Still a show-off, I see," she said, shaking her head. She considered his demeanor for a moment, seeing amusement in his eyes but the warmth in them wasn't as vibrant as before. He looked disappointed, at least. "You should go."
"I guess I really should." He stepped back and went down the dais. "Perhaps I'll see you here again tomorrow?"
"You're still here tomorrow?" Zoya hadn't meant to sound enthusiastic as it might add to his ego again, but she still did, anyway. She blinked, covering up her eagerness with a frown. “I mean, if you’re still here, I wouldn’t plan to come here again.”
Nicky smiled. “We’re probably here until the end of the week. Unless my brother throws a fit and is overcome with a dark mood,” he said. “No need to get too excited, Princess.”
“No, I’m not. Who says I am?”
“Whatever you say.” He grinned at her, and then bowed deeply. “It’s been an honor, Princess.”
With a final wink, Nicky turned and walked towards the door.
Zoya watched him as he disappeared behind the doors along with the guard, and the arena was quiet once again. She didn’t want to think of it, but she kind of liked the constant jokes Nicky told her during the past few hours. Maybe he wasn’t that annoying after all.
          She looked forward to tomorrow.
 ---
When Nicky didn’t come the next morning, she tried to hide her disappointment all throughout the day. She asked the Queen later that night about the Fjerdan visitors they had and she learned that they had to leave the night prior because of an emergency.
Zoya only nodded in understanding. They would most likely visit again sometime soon, and maybe she’d get better with handling her sword by that time and Nicky wouldn’t be much of a smug person that he was.
She used it as her drive to learn faster and better. His next visit would definitely be a fun one.
 ---
But he never came back again.
*****
Their swords clashed with a loud clang, but neither refused to back down. Zoya could feel her strength dwindling from exhaustion since earlier, but she refused to give him the win.
She pushed back against his sword. “Tired, Captain?” she goaded, and sweeped her foot in an arc to the ground.
Nikolai reacted at the last second and stepped back, using her momentum to hit the sword in her hand. It was knocked a few feet away and Zoya rolled over to get it.
“Barely,” he said, but he was already panting as well. He lunged for her just as she landed on a crouch, and she raised her weapon in time to parry his strike. He backed away, giving her the chance to stand up and recover. There was a smug grin on his face, and she fought the urge to punch it off.  “How about you, Princess? Getting sloppier?”
This ticked off something in her, but Zoya covered with a dark laugh. She rolled her wrist that was already beginning to feel numb. She had been in the arena for a few hours now, and Nikolai had the audacity to challenge her to a duel. “You seem to be forgetting that I beat you in that royal tournament, Captain,” she said as they circled around each other, never breaking eye contact. “That was only a year ago. Do I need to remind you?”
He chuckled, and then lunged at her in a flash. Zoya sidestepped and whirled. Nikolai barreled past her, and she used the split second to kick him in the back of his knees that sent him toppling over. She bit back a laugh as she raised a brow to his slumped figure on the ground.
          “Getting sloppier?”
Nikolai stood back up, twirling the sword around his hand. Still a show-off. He ran a hand through his hair to brush off the fallen strands from his eyes. “Only for you, Princess.” He strode forward to attack, and Zoya raised her sword to ready her defense.
But he feigned right, and in an instant, he tossed his sword to his other hand and flipped it that the pommel was facing upwards.
Zoya blinked, the grip on her own sword loosening for a bit.
          She had seen that before.
He bent down and stabbed the ground near her feet, causing her to snap out from her daze and step back. But it was already too late. She only had a second to see the triumphant smile on Nikolai’s face as he struck up and hit her hand with the pommel, effectively throwing off her sword again.
Nikolai was panting as he pointed his sword at her, using its tip to tilt her chin up. He smirked. “You were saying?”
Zoya was still staring at him, trying to remember that one day from the arena almost a decade ago. A memory of an infuriating boy and his loquacious nature resurfaced.
          Nicky.
          Was it him?
Nikolai must have noticed her bewildered look, because a confused expression bloomed on his face and he stepped back, lowering his sword. “For someone who always won, I understand that you’d look shocked when you lost but. . . are you okay? You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
I might as well have. Zoya recovered and averted her eyes, suddenly finding her weapon on the ground interesting. She walked over to pick it up. “Yes, I am. Sloppy loss for me, I will admit. I got distracted for a bit.” She paused. “Good fight.”
“Then you finally admit I’m that distracting enough?”
She rolled her eyes and turned to Nikolai, who was already putting back the sword in the weapon rack by the wall. “Who says so?”
“I don’t know, maybe you?” He chuckled as he walked back to the dais to retrieve his coat from the edge. “But now I know it still works, eh?”
Zoya raised an eyebrow. “What was that supposed to mean?” she demanded, eyeing his retreating form walk towards the doors.
Then a thought struck her. Did he do that on purpose? Did he know?
          Was it him?
Nikolai reached the doors, but before he could leave completely, he turned to look at her. There was a soft smile on his lips that made him look less than a Captain and more of an old friend. He gestured to his head. “At least you’re holding your sword properly this time,” he said, and her eyes widened. Everything clicked into place. What in the world— He laughed loudly and opened the doors. “Wear your crown again next time!” Then he was gone.
Zoya was left gaping at the spot where he had just been. It took another long moment for her to process everything, but in the end, she let out a loud laugh that she didn’t know she was capable of doing. She shook her head in disbelief, turning back to the dais and remembering that day from a long time ago. A real smile found its way to her lips after a while, and a warm feeling bloomed in her chest.
Perhaps he did end up coming back after all.

dear diary // chapter three
Hey! Long time, no see! I am so, so, so sorry that this chapter is late. I’ve been having a bit of a busy time recently and haven’t had many opportunities to write/edit like usual. But now I have a looser schedule so updates to the series should go back to normal! 😄 I hope you are all doing okay wherever you are! :)
Find the series masterlist here to catch up on the previous chapter!

(*) Warnings: mentions of bankruptcy and emotional abuse
All I could see was red. The anger that flowed through my veins was terrifyingly smooth, leaving my entire body shaking. The news that my mom just told me, well, sobbed to me, left me in awe. In terrible, heart-wrenching, shocking...awe.
Sweetie, my mom’s sweet and clear voice bellowed through my memory, I’m so sorry. So, so, so sorry, darling.
“Charlotte, you need to calm down. Seriously. I don’t know what’s--” Leila said softly, her hands firm on my shaking shoulders.
At a time like this, I didn’t need her soothing me. I needed her to slap me out of this impending doom that I thought would tear me apart. I needed to get a grip on reality, to comprehend that this entire nightmare was actually happening.
“Leila, do you know what my mom just told me?” I huffed, throwing my phone onto the tidy bed that I had just made. Our first night in New York had started off amazingly, as if it was taken straight out of a movie; we met new and amazing people, found Leila’s wayward bag, explored the dorm building...
Then, when called my mom once we got back to our dorm...everything came crashing down like a colossal, teetering tower of Jenga blocks.
Leila scowled at me then, squeezing my shoulders harder. Her eyes, usually a coffee bean brown, looked inky black when her entire demeanor changed from confused to quite ticked off. I immediately regretted the tone I used, though there was no going back now.
“Does it look like I do? God, you can be so dense sometimes!” Leila stated, glaring right into my eyes with a look that sent a chill down my spine. “Something’s up and you need to tell me immediately.”
This wasn’t something that I thought I could even have the guts to say. But, sooner than I though, words started forming on the tip of my tongue at the speed of light; but one stood out in particular, one chilling me to the bone.
“Bankrupt.”
This set her back, making her hands falter a bit on my shoulders.
“What? Charlotte, I need deta--”
“The diner, Leila.”
The words slowly tore my heart into microscopic pieces. Every notable memory I had from my childhood took place at the diner. I could distinctly remember the scent of buttermilk pancake batter being mixed and the sounds of plates being stacked. I could remember the outside, the bright yellow paint standing out against the lifeless gray colors of the neighborhood that it’s surrounded by.
“T-The Golden Griddle?” Leila asked, confusion consuming her features once more. The intense look in her eyes slowly fizzled out and turned into pure fret. As she’d always been, Leila was not well-composed in these types of situations.
“Yes. There’s just too many complications with the building, too many expenses and so little money...” I sighed sadly. Tears welled in my eyes, though I didn’t need to show Leila that. And so, with a deep breath, I sniffled and shook my head to clear the emotions away. “My dad spent what he could to fix the cheaper things like the light fixtures and seats, but then he got carried away with fixing the rest of the bigger issues. It all added up over time, Leila. Now the diner...the diner doesn’t have anything left.”
The diner had so, so many issues for such a long time. The interior, for as long as I could remember, was small. There were only ten tables, half of those being booths that lined the walls, in total. The kitchen was also considerably compact for the amount of business that the diner would face. My parents always wanted to get around to renovate properly, but could never keep up with the overwhelming amounts of money spent on necessities like ingredients, napkins, utensils, advertisements...so DIY projects and repairs it was.
“But your parents still own it, right? They can bounce back?”
My heart yearned to be at home with my family. Why would I leave? God, I really am dense. Forget school, forget dreams. Home is where I should’ve been when that news was unveiled, not thousands of miles away.
“No. I guess the health inspector said that there were so many things with the building that set off a lot of red flags. He condemned it right on the spot.”
Leila’s eyebrow’s furrowed in thought. It was never easy for me to talk about these things - the serious things - with her. Of course, though, she knew almost everything about me; she knew that I was never the “open book” type and would always need a bit of encouragement to work my way up to talking things through. I’d rather sit and wallow in my misery than get help. The whole mindset had definitely not been ideal for anyone, but that was always the least of my worries.
The moment Leila looked back into my eyes was the moment she started to speak, her voice soft like it was before; again, I didn’t need to be sympathized, I needed to be able to see reason. This whole thing caught me completely off-guard.
Leila whispered, shaking her head, “How did this even happen?”
In high school, a very wise teacher of mine once said that there is no such thing as a stupid question, only stupid people who ask questions. However, by the looks of it, this was definitely an exception. Even with her ingenious, Leila had just asked one of the stupidest questions known to man.
She knew exactly how this happened, and has known for years. The Golden Griddle’s financial instability had never, ever been able to be kept secret in a town such as Ceder Cove, no matter how many times my parents tried.
“Oh, wait. Sorry.” Leila stammered, looking up at the ceiling to collect herself.
“It’s fine. I just can’t fathom what my parents are going through right now. Henry, too.” I sighed, stepping back from Leila and letting my shoulders deflate. I slowly sat on the edge of my bed and crossed my legs, my gaze trained on the aged wood floor. “Even if I should, I’m not calling my mom back with more details tonight. This...this is just too much for me to handle right now.”
Leila was silent and I looked up to see her scrolling through her phone.
Seriously? I cleared my throat to get her attention...but she didn’t even flinch.
“Leila. Are you even listening to me? Or...are you texting Skye?”
Leila’s eyes immediately averted from her phone to look at me. The smallest hint of a blush crept into her cheeks, though she played it off and rolled her eyes.
“Actually, Erin wants to take us shopping for the party next week when we’re available. Check your phone.” Leila stated, a defensive edge in her tone. I was the one to roll my eyes this time.
Now, let’s get this straight; I am not fond of parties. Leila had dragged me to each homecoming, each winter formal, and the two prom nights that we had. My date to prom both years, a guy named Harold Longhorn (a total snob), would not shut up about politics or the “oh-so-stupid” stock market. I only went with him because he said he’d tutor me for free with my AP Euro and AP Chem homework in collateral. Oh, and did I mention that his dad is a major entrepreneur in the Portland area? Wait, that’s unimportant; just like every single party I’ve ever been to in my life.
“Do I have to go? I’d rather stay here and reread Pride & Prejudice for the millionth time or something that I actually enjoy. Dancing the night away doesn’t sound as interesting to me as my daily dose of Mr. Darcy.”
Leila scoffed and looked over at me again, her eyebrow quirked in such a way that left me a bit uneasy.
“News flash, Charlotte Parker, but Mr. Darcy is fictitious and will not save you from this.” Leila scolded, though she was playful about it. “I’m not letting you stay here because you’re a college girl now and you need to socialize with people other than me!”
“Ughhhh,” I groaned, laying down onto my bed and turning away from her and burying my face into my pillow that sadly smelt like home, “you sound just like my mom!”
Leila burst out into laughter that sent a faint chill down my spine. Whatever her plans were, she knew I’d loathe them.
“I’m glad.”

August 10th, 2020
Dear Diary...
Okay. Sorry for the radio silence. Lots has happened over the course of a couple weeks that I need to get off my chest. As Scar would say, be prepared...
First off, NYU is amazing. I’ve already met lots of (!!) people, though 4 have become friends! Two girls, two guys: Skye, Erin, Rory, and Ajay. They’re all really down-to-earth and genuinely cool people that I’m getting along with!
Rory and Leila are really like two peas in a pod, and so are Skye and Leila. Leila is just a social butterfly, so she honestly gets along with everyone. Erin and Ajay, though, are more mellow and easy-going. Erin is so...laid back? Like she’s the type of person that you could spill your life story to. She’s just so, I don’t know... nonchalant? - definitely in a good way.
However, I feel more drawn to Ajay; we share similar interests and outlooks on life. He even saw my performance at Spotlite! He’s also a student director here at NYU, so if I do somehow wind up in the show, I’d probably work with him. It even helps that he’s kinda cute, but you didn’t hear that from me.
Overall, though, the campus is absolutely stunning and the view from our dorm window takes my breath away each and every morning.
Second, The Golden Griddle is doomed right now due to both bankruptcy and condemnation. My parents are all torn up about it, and to be blatantly honest, so am I. The diner has always been a home away from home, and now that I may have to face losing it forever...
Third, I HATE PARTIES. With a deep, burning passion.
Leila, if you’re reading this, then you can call me George Eacker: piss off because I’m watching this show - also known as Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist - now...well..when you’re at the party! Theres no way in hell that I’m stepping foot into anything resembling a disco or a dance or even, god forbid, a hoedown like that one during our sophomore year. Nope, nope, nope. Over my dead body.
All in all, I’m having a wonderful time settling into my new life in New York. Of course I miss home, but I also feel like it was time for me to spread my wings and learn to fly!
Alright. I gotta run. I’m going shopping. And, yes, it’s regrettably for this pointless party that I’m being forced to go to against my will.
Talk, er, write soon!
Charlotte :)

“Ooo, what’re you writing about?” Leila asked, barging back into our slightly messy dorm after finishing with her morning routine. I hastily closed my diary and forced a smile.
“Um, it’s just the address of my uncle’s new house! Mom said to write it down somewhere in case I lost my phone.”
Shoot. Thank God Leila wasn’t really paying much attention to catch how bad of an excuse that was; she just turned her back to me and scavenged through a pile of dirty clothes already heaped in the corner by her closet. It’s been six days since we’ve moved in. I still haven’t really organized nor have I gotten around to calling my parents or Henry with updates about the diner.
“Right, right. He moved a couple days ago. Though, with our plans today, are you ready to go? Erin and Skye are already waiting for us downstairs.” Leila said, grabbing her purse. I gave her a scowl and grabbed my own, sighing as I slung it on my shoulder.
“Ready as I’ll ever be, I guess. But I have one quick question,” I said, finally catching her attention, “why are you wearing those?”
My eyes went to the unscuffed black stilettos on her feet; they had to have been at least 5 inches tall. She laughed and instinctively brought one of her ankles up to rub it as if she’d been in pain. The stilettos were paired with a pair of skinny and holey whitewash jeans and a black Shinedown sweatshirt with a crow and a butterfly printed in white; from what I remember, that was one of the band’s songs.
“I’m wearing these to the party so I figured I’d break them in a little first. And I need to find a dress that looks good with them, so why not?”
“Fair warning, you might actually break something else before you walk a block in those death traps.” I teased, making her huff. This was obviously not something she wanted to hear, but let’s remember who was dragging me to this stupid party in the first place. My sarcasm comes with the territory!
“Jesus, you make it sound like I’m breaking a law! They’re just heels!” Leila laughed, shaking her head. Her hair had been in two Dutch braids, making her outfit even more unique. To each their own, I suppose.
“Just heels that might put you on crutches,” I mumbled, rolling my eyes as I slipped my (comfortable) light pink flip flops on. We headed down to the lobby and quickly spotted Erin, chatting with Rory and Ajay, and Skye standing a little off to the side.
“Ah, there you guys are!” Erin grinned, running over and leading us over to the group.
“I thought this was a girl trip?” I asked, playfully eyeing the guys. Ajay gave a tight-lipped smile and rolled his eyes.
“Oh, don’t worry, it is. We were just heading out to find Rory another outfit that he apparently needs because his six other ones aren’t enough.” Ajay explained, making direct eye contact with me. I could see the different blends of brown tinges in his eyes - the light from both the windows and the bulbs above hitting just the right angles - shimmer behind his glasses. I also noticed that he was wearing a simple green t-shirt and a pair of khaki shorts with black Nike’s.
Wait, what?
“I may have a slight obsession with shopping,” Rory said sheepishly, slowly creeping away from the group, “but I also need something fresh. I can’t be seen in the same maroon shirt that I wore to--”
Ajay’s groan interrupted him but he followed in Rory’s footsteps with a small shrug. “We’ll be going now. Have fun.”
I immediately felt myself missing his eyes. The brown sparkles that caught my own. Was it so wrong to find his eyes...gorgeous? Didn’t think so.
As they waved goodbye, Leila migrated from my side to Skye’s. The redhead looked particularly sad today, but let out the slightest trace of a smile when Leila started talking to her.
“So, where’re we going to go first, o’ wise Erin?” I asked, turning to her. She looked a bit lost in thought, a bit dazed when our eyes met, but I could tell she regained herself before she answered.
“Well, I thought we’d take a trip to The Shops today,” Erin said smugly, her hand resting on her hip, “we can take an Uber in case we want to make other stops along the way!”
Skye visibly revolted at the thought, her arms tightening around her chest and her glower intensifying. The way her blue eyes darkened was just a bit unsettling, too.
“Okay. Sounds good...” I sighed, gripping my leather purse strap a bit tighter.
“Sure,” Skye groaned, “good. Great. Grand. Just how I wanted to spend my day.”
*
*
The nearby mall, The Shops, had a wide array of stores that we buzzed in and out of, Erin and Leila eagerly leading the way.
“You know,” I said, looking over at Skye, “I really don’t understand why we need new clothes for this party.”
Skye shrugged. “Me neither. I never really had to get new clothes for the banquets that I went to as a kid with my parents.”
I instantly noticed that her hands were in tight fists at her sides.
“What do your parents do?” I asked, trying to keep her talking. I really wanted to get to know her better; she was still such a mystery and I was destined to change that.
Though, the bitter grimace she gave at the question was all the hint that I needed to know that I’d said something wrong, maybe even crossed a line.
“They do nothing but make a lot of money and prioritize themselves over anything else, even their own kids.”
Oh, wow. I blinked rapidly, willing my brain to say, something, anything, to break the agonizing silence building between us.
“Oh. I’m sorry I brought it up.” I stammered, though she shook her head.
“It’s okay. It’s just...not something I really like to talk about.” Skye sighed, almost ruefully. Despite my pending curiosity, I left the topic be.
“What’re you here in New York to do, Skye?” I asked instead, hoping to lighten her spirits a little. When she looked back over at me, she gave me a neutral expression.
“Graphics,” Skye stated, her tone firm and assured, “I want to be a graphics designer.”
“That’s really interesting. Have you designed anything yourself?”
Sadly, before I could hear her answer, Erin and Leila gasped in unison and pointed to a store. A quick glance at the shop name was enough to make me roll my eyes.
“Windsor! Yes!” Leila squealed, bolting into the store without a second thought. Erin rushed after her, gesturing for Skye and I to follow.
Several racks of dresses filled the store and even lined the walls, some popping with bright color and some glittering with infinite sparkle. I watched Leila pluck several dresses off their racks and fold them over her arm, shaking my head.
“Wow, look at this abomination.” Skye murmured, plucking a dress made of plastic (well, not literally, but basically) off the rack. It was a flamingo pink and looked like something a Barbie doll would wear. A laugh escaped her as she sifted through and pulled out the other options, the colors ranging from a vibrant cobalt to a neon yellow.
“I’ve always wanted to be Barbie disguised as a highlighter! Skye, how’d you know?” I giggled, taking a resembling green one off the same rack. My poor eyes ached at the sight of all the vivid colors.
“Pure intuition, obviously.” Skye responded, putting the dresses back on the rack. “Jeez, I could never wear any of these.”
I could agree; I would never be able to pull any of these off. Also, it didn’t help that they were so effervescent and looked severely uncomfortable. (I mean, how do you even move in that kind of material?)
“Me neither,” I said wistfully, plucking another dress off a nearby rack. It was a black sweetheart-necklined dress that cut off at (what I’d say) the knee. It had some lace detailing on the straps and a few sparkles scattered across both the bodice and the skirt. It wasn’t over-the-top, nor was it boring...
I held it up to Skye, making her jump back a little with surprise. I giggled and closed an eye, coming to a conclusion about how this dress would look incredible on her.
“Whoa, what’re--” Skye asked, her eyes widening. I smiled warmly and laid it over her arm.
“I think this is a good option for you, and I’m guessing your a 4?” I smirked, watching her gape in both confusion and amusement.
“How’d you...know?”
“Pure intuition, obviously.” I playfully mocked, making her crack a tiny smile. As we continued throughout the store, we came across a few more ridiculously bright options, thankfully not made out of a faux plastic.
About five minutes into our little exploration, I spotted a dress; it was a silvery mauve skater dress with a flowing skirt and spaghetti straps. By some sort of force, it spoke to me.
“That’s pretty,” Skye said, nodding in approval as I held it up, “ it definitely speaks ‘girl who can read minds’ to me.”
Oh jeez, she’s cool. She’s really cool.
“Perfect, it’s just what I’m looking for, then,” I joked, folding the dress over my arm and walking further into the store. Erin and Leila, practically having the time of their lives, had their arms brimming with dresses that ranged from super glittery to extremely bright. I could swear I could see a familiar highlighter yellow in Leila’s stack, but that could just be my mind playing tricks on me.
Speaking of Leila, I stifled a giggle as I watched her wobble around in her stilettos, grimacing whenever she walked too fast. Not to say I told you so, Leila, I thought, but...I told you so.
“Ladies!” Erin squealed, pointing back to the dressing room area with her free hand. “Let’s go try these on!”
*
*
“How about this masterpiece?” Leila giggled, sauntering out of the dressing room. Erin burst into laughter, Skye rolled her eyes, and I, well...
“Oh my God, Leila...” I playfully gagged, covering my eyes. Turns out that she really did pick out a highlighter dress to try on. After a few laughs, she turned around and changed into a royal blue dress with a deep V neckline. It was sparkly, sassy, and overall...very Leila.
*
*
“Wow, you look great, Skye!” I cheered, giving her two thumbs-up as she examined herself in the mirror. The dress was a perfect fit and she seemed to be comfortable in it. Her hands idly fiddled with the skirt, experimentally flicking it back and forth in thought.
“It seriously looks amazing on you!” Erin smiled, nodding with approval. Skye gave me a small, appreciative smile in the mirror.
I took a quick glance over at Leila and was met with her wide eyes and deep red cheeks.
*
*
“Charlotte, phew, you look hot!” Leila whistled, gesturing for me to spin around. I didn’t really gush over the “dream dress” as much as I had hoped. In fact, the more I looked at it, the more I disliked it.
“Maybe we can find a different color?” I said, looking back at Erin’s face; she definitely did not like it. She shot up out of her chair and came back a moment later with a similar option. It was the same style of dress but in a jade green shade instead. It was also not as shimmery, but more dull and had ruffles on the neckline.
I ducked back into the dressing room and quickly changed. With just a glance at myself now, I knew I found the one. I stepped back out and saw everyone’s face light up.
“Yup,” Erin said smugly as she crossed her legs, “that’s the one.”
*
*
Erin walked out in a tight-fitting midi white dress that popped against her flawless chocolate brown skin. It had a plunging V-neck and a small slit on the left side that climbed all the way up toward the middle of her thigh. Needless to say...she was killing it.
“Now I just need some hoops...” Erin mumbled as she examined herself. Leila looked over at me and just gaped.
“Stunning!” I said, and Erin gave me a warm and self-satisfied smile.
*
*
Finally, we were heading home in an Uber. But because of how long the shopping took, we decided to stop and get some ice cream from a local parlor; all after persuading the driver to wait for us with a hefty tip.
Erin munched on a mixture of raspberry and vanilla, Leila got creamsicle all over her face, Skye picked at her brownie swirl, and I delightfully ate two scoops of cake batter.
“So. Are you two excited about going to this party now?” Erin asked, eyeing Skye and I. At the same time, we both shook our heads.
“New dress, same feelings.” Skye sighed, looking down into her dish. I nodded in agreement only to hear a dramatic sigh from Leila.
“You two will have fun. We’ll find fun things for you guys!” Leila grinned, glancing at Erin. The two shared a look that, like all the times before, sent a chill down my spine.
“You guys can’t make us have fun.” Skye said, figuring her face was serious; but I looked over to see a teasing smirk on her face.
“Well, we can sure as hell try! Besides, what do you guys have against parties?” Erin said, her tone a bit more tame then it was before. My eyes averted from theirs, and without looking, I could tell Skye was doing the same.
Awkward silence wracked the table for what seemed like hours before Skye spoke up.
“You can thank my parents for being the pessimistic and narcissistic assholes that they are. My distaste originates from them.” Skye said, her teasing tone completely replaced with a hiss. She spoke in a mumbled tone, as if she wished she didn’t want to speak.
“I’ve just never been really...happy with the ones I’ve gone to in the past.” I added awkwardly. I thought about the one good party I went to...and of course it had to be from the diner. Emotions bubbled in my throat and were about to escape before Leila (thankfully) interjected with a disapproving groan.
Then, right after, all three of us got looks of unbridled hope and amusement from Erin.
“That’s going to change because, dearest freshmen, you’ve never experienced a party quite like a college party.”
And it can stay that way, I thought.

The rest of the ice cream was eaten alongside lighter conversation, and then, FINALLY, we were back in the dorms.
The afternoon flew as I decided to buckle down and unpack the remainder of my things. Leila went to hang out with Erin and Skye (without heels, if you were wondering) as I slaved away at stacking my t-shirts in my closet, that is until I got a knock at my door.
As soon as I opened it, I saw a familiar pair of gorgeous eyes lock onto mine.
“Hi, I know this is kinda weird,” Ajay said casually, “ but I have a question for you.”
I leaned against the door, praying I didn’t look like an uncoordinated mess. “It’s not weird at all, actually. Shoot.”
God, his eyes are just breathtaking in any and every way. Was it weird to be obsessing over an acquaintance’s eyes like this? Yes, I thought, yes it was.
“Well, since we really don’t want to go to the party, I was hoping we could try to get something out of it?”
What does he mean? If we didn’t want to go, what good would we be able to get out of it?
I tipped my head a bit to the side in curiosity and felt some of my blonde hair come loose from its bun.
“Let me escort you. To the party.”
Wait, was that an actual thing? An escort to a college party? No way. It sounded so childlike, almost like something an elementary kid would say.
“Hang on. Do you mean, like, as a date?” I asked, my tone packing more intensity than I had hoped. His eyes widened and he shook his head.
“No, no. I just want to get to know you better. I thought that this would be a better option than hunting you down in a huge mass of drunk people and ending up not being able to find you.” Ajay explained, a light smile tugging at his lips. “So...?”
Maybe spending the night with someone with the same ideals as me would make the night less dreadful, perhaps even fun. I barely gave the idea a thought before words left my mouth.
“Sure, Ajay, I’ll be your escort.”

A Gohan x Videl Fanfiction
Tumblr media
SOUTHERN CONTINENT
Gohan and Videl were able to follow Kibito, who explained everything about the magician Bibidi and the evil Majin Buu he created, and also Bibidi's son, Babidi who lived to continue Bibidi's plan of dominating the whole universe.
KIBITO: We need to fly faster for us to catch up to them.
GOHAN: Okay... Videl?
VIDEL: Gohan, I can't go on further. I think I'll just go back.
GOHAN: Okay, but be careful. And, can you please tell my mom and Goten and the others of what is happening?
VIDEL: I will... but first, I want you to be honest with me.
GOHAN: Huh?
VIDEL: You're the Golden Fighter, right?
GOHAN: … Yes, I am...
VIDEL: And back at the Cell Games, the small kid that was with the other fighters, it was you. Right?
GOHAN: ... Yes.
VIDEL: And it's not my dad who beat Cell. It was one of your friends... your dad maybe?
GOHAN: W-Well...
VIDEL: I knew it! I should be a detective someday, don't you think?
GOHAN: Yeah... maybe.
VIDEL: You have to tell me more about what happened when this is over. Promise me that.
GOHAN: I promise.
Videl stops flying. Gohan stops as well. Kibito continues, but with the same pace.
VIDEL: Gohan, promise me that you'll come back safe and in one piece, okay?
GOHAN: I promise.
Videl looks at him, making Gohan quite uncomfortable. But for some reasons, he cannot look away. He likes looking at her like that, like he was coming through inside her soul, like she is coming through inside his heart.
VIDEL: It's okay, Gohan, to be different, to be not like everyone else. It's weird, but it's cool... And I like different...
Videl blushes as her heart beats faster because of her confession. Gohan is just staring at her, and she can't look back at him anymore.
VIDEL: I'm going now. And after all these, I hope... I hope we could train again and... probably do other things as well...
She tries to look back at him once again, before she bids her goodbye.
VIDEL: Goodbye, Gohan... See you...
She was about to fly away when Gohan called her.
GOHAN: Videl!
She turns to face him again.
GOHAN: When I come back, we'll talk. I'll tell you everything you want to know about me. I promise.
Videl smiles and nods. Gohan flies away, faster than he was when he was flying with Videl.
VIDEL: He's so fast. I know I'll just hold him back.
Gohan's figure fades away, but Videl kept on staring for a few more moments.
VIDEL: Saving the world again, huh... How dangerous has your life been, Gohan? Who would have thought that the goofy classmate of mine is the real savior of the world?
She smiles.
VIDEL: Gohan, you better come back alive. 'Cause if you do, then maybe I will consider dating you for real.
She flies back to Papaya Island.
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, Gohan was able to catch up with Kibito. The two fly faster and were able to catch up with Goku and the others.
GOHAN: Dad!
GOKU: Hey!
The group continues to follow Spopovich and Yamu, until the two seems to have reached their destination.
KIBITO: This is odd. We've already checked this location before but found nothing.
The group stops and hid at a rock formation near the spot where Spopovich and Yamu stopped. The two waits outside a weird-looking facility that looks like a mollusk shell with the letter M on the facade. It seems to be planted to the ground.
PICCOLO: Let's lower our ki.
A guy goes out of the facility, talks to Yamu and Spopovich. He kind of looks like Freeza's second form, but is leaner and shorter. He's wearing a black jumpsuit and white armored chest plate.
GOKU: Is that Babidi?
SHIN: No.
GOHAN: The ground around the ship seems like it's been dug up.
KIBITO: He hid his sheep on the ground! That is why we couldn't find him!
SHIN: That just means one thing. He knows we're here on Earth!
PICCOLO: Why don't we attack right now before they use the energy to resurrect Majin Buu?
SHIN: They won't revive him underground, or else he will destroy the ship. Let's wait a little longer.
Gohan looks around the place. He sees some dead people who seems like their energy was drained. He suddenly feels enraged.
GOHAN: (on his mind) Are these their victims, too? How horrible these monsters are!
PICCOLO: Something's coming out.
On the ship comes two individuals - a small alien-looking guy and a demon-looking dude. Upon seeing them, Kibito and Shin are shocked.
SHIN: That's...
KIBITO: Unbelievable! Babidi has possessed Dabura!
SHIN: I didn't know he was capable of controlling him.
GOKU: Can you explain who those two are?
SHIN: The smaller one is Babidi, and the taller one is Dabura, the King of Evil.
GOKU: He seems like a strong one.
SHIN: Definitely. He is the strongest in the Universe of Evil.
KRILLIN: That sounds like a very horrible place. That means this Dabura guy is dangerous.
GOHAN: Supreme Kai, you said that Babidi is controlling Dabura?
SHIN: Babidi is not strong himself, so he uses his magic to control others and work for him. His magic powers are strong that he can control even the king of evilness.
PICCOLO: So he uses his magic to bend people to his will?
KIBITO: No. What he does is he manipulates the evil in a person's heart making them do what they have always wanted. Dabura is the perfect choice for that. That is also what he used to control Yamu and Spopovich.
GOKU: The power that they have, they can't control it because it was Babidi's.
KIBITO: Yes. If you're not pure of heart then he can control you and manipulate you into doing your deepest darkest desire.
SHIN: I did not expect Babidi to resort into Dabura. This cause a big twist in the plan.
VEGETA: Are you saying we won't win against them?
The Supreme Kai does not answer.
VEGETA: As if I'll lose to these two! I won't let them win over me and bring that Buu back into life.
GOKU: Krillin, go back now. This is more dangerous than I thought.
KRILLIN: That's right. I don't think I could be of help here anyway.
Babidi took the canister that contains Gohan's energy, and eventually eliminates Spopovich. He then asked the other guy, Pui Pui, to eliminate Yamu.
GOHAN: They killed their own men! They're terrible!
Babidi talks to Dabura a little more, then goes back inside the ship. Pui Pui follows suit, leaving Dabura outside. Dabura looks into the direction where the Z Fighters hide.
SHIN: No way...
Dabura comes flying to the group.
VEGETA: They know about us!
Dabura attacks the group. He goes to Kibito first and blasts him off, turning him into pieces. He then spits to Krillin and Piccolo.
SHIN: Don't let his saliva touch you!
But it was too late. Krillin and Piccolo suddenly turn into stone statue.
GOKU: Krillin! Piccolo! (goes to the two)
SHIN: Don't touch them! They can't change back if you break them.
GOKU: But will they turn back to normal?
SHIN: If Dabura dies.
GOKU: (smiles confidently) That one's easy.
DABURA: As if you'll kill me! (laughs wickedly) Go away! You'll never win over Babidi.
Dabura flies away.
GOHAN: Let's go, Dad! We need to turn Krillin and Piccolo back to normal.
GOKU: Let's go!
The two flies away.
SHIN: Don't come after him! This is his plan all along! Don't play with his game!
VEGETA: Unfortunately, we Saiyans are an impatient type.
Vegeta goes as well. The Supreme Kai was enraged but has no choice but to follow them.
Tumblr media
The three Saiyans enter the door to the ship. On it is a very deep tunnel leading to who knows what. The three of them looks down and sees nothing, but even so they still decide to come down. They arrive at a circular empty room.
GOKU: What is this place? (looks around) It's empty.
GOHAN: There's a door over there. Should we break in?
The Supreme Kai arrives as well.
GOKU: So, you decided to follow, Supreme Kai.
SHIN: It's because I can't do anything with your recklessness.
The tunnel at the top suddenly closes.
SHIN: It seems that we could not come out unless Babidi is defeated.
VEGETA: We could just destroy the ship.
SHIN: If you do that the impact might awaken Buu. That is the last thing we want to happen.
The lone door of the room suddenly opens. Pui Pui comes out of it.
PUI PUI: Welcome! Lord Babidi is at the bottom floor. You can come to him, but only if you defeat me. But I doubt it, because you're all going to die here.
GOKU: I doubt that as well!
PUI PUI: (laughs wickedly) Say whatever you want. Now, who comes first?
GOKU: Hmn? Let's see. (turns to Gohan and Vegeta) Should I go first?
VEGETA: That's not fair, Kakarot! You always go first. Remember you went first during the Cell Games?
GOKU: You're right... Okay, why don't you go, Gohan?
VEGETA: No! Let's settle this the fair way.
GOKU: Okay. I agree.
The three of them plays rock-paper-scissor, to the Supreme Kai's shock.
SHIN: (to himself) Why are they acting like this is a game? Are these people really gone insane?
GOKU, VEGETA, GOHAN: Rock, paper, scissors!
GOKU: Oh, crap!
VEGETA: Ok, I won.
SHIN: You're fighting him alone?
VEGETA: Of course. He's no big deal.
PUI PUI: (to himself) Well, Lord Babidi told me to be careful because they're strong. Stupid is more like it.
VEGETA: You're the stupid one. We are the strongest fighters in the universe.
PUI PUI: (laughs mischievously) You're joking. I told you you'll die here. Your energy will be used to revive Majin Buu.
VEGETA: So if I don't get hurt, my energy will not be absorbed?
PUI PUI: That's right, but that's not going to happen.
VEGETA: Enough of this chatter. Let's start!
The two of them starts fighting. Goku, Gohan and the Supreme Kai watch as Vegeta singlehandedly defeat Pui Pui. When the latter seems defeated, the room suddenly changes. They were brought to planet Zoon, the planet where Pui Pui came from. It seems it has a different time zone as Earth as it was night when they are transported there.
Tumblr media
GOHAN: What happened? Where are we?
SHIN: I'm not sure, but this place might be where Pui Pui can fight better. No doubt this is Babidi's magic.
PUI PUI: Ha! Now, the tables will turn! This is Planet Zoon, the place where I've been born and raised. It has ten times gravity than Earth.
VEGETA: And you think I care? Ten times gravity is nothing.
PUI PUI: (laughs wickedly) You're bluffing. Are you trying to look mighty before I crush you to death?
VEGETA: The one who's dying... is you!
Vegeta attacks Pui Pui with an energy attack, turning him to pieces. After a while the circle on the ground opens up.
GOKU: The floor opened up! This might be the way to get out of here.
The three Saiyans rush to the hole and jumps in, leaving a dumbfounded Supreme Kai behind.
GOHAN: This looks like a video game.
VEGETA: Such stupid game!
GOKU: Hey Supreme Kai! Let's go!
SHIN: Those people... So much power...
The group is transported back to the ship, but this time to another level.
GOKU: This looks like the previous room.
GOHAN: Maybe he can also turn this into something else.
GOKU: I wonder who the next opponent is.
Ten minutes has passed but there's still no sign of their next opponent.
GOKU: What's taking them so long? Hey! Hurry up, will ya!?
VEGETA: Why do we even have to wait? Let's just break the floor and go down to where that Babidi might be.
SHIN: I told you! That could awaken Buu.
VEGETA: I bet that Buu is no big deal, just like Dabura.
SHIN: What do you mean? Dabura?
VEGETA: Judging from the way he moved, I don't think his attack is strong. It's just his spit that you need to watch out for. Kibito was just careless.
SHIN: Goku, is that true?
GOKU: Yeah. Well, even if that is not his full strength, I don't think he's something we can't handle. Seven years ago, we fought Cell. Dabura seems to be the same power level as that.
SHIN: (on his mind) I can't believe how strong these Saiyans are! But thinking about it... Gohan's power as a Super Saiyan is incredible. What if that's not yet his full power?
GOKU: Hey! Hurry up! It's my turn to fight, you know!
The door opens, and a monster-looking alien comes out.
GOKU: What is this creature?
YAKON: Which among you should I eat first?
GOKU: (disappointed) You're the one I'm fighting? Uh! You don't seem like a challenge to me.
SHIN: It's... It's Yakon!
Yakon suddenly attacks Goku, and the fighting begins. In the usual Goku fashion, he fights the opponent first to assess its capabilities. Others might mistake this as Goku not being able to defeat his opponent.
GOHAN: He's pretty fast for his size.
SHIN: Let's help Goku!
GOHAN: Nah! Dad's fine. He can handle this one.
BABIDI: (voice over) Yakon! You're doing a good job. Kill them all except for the Supreme Kai. Take their energy. That will be enough to revive Buu. I'm sending you to your favorite place, the Planet of Darkness.
The room suddenly becomes dark.
GOKU: Hey! I can't see anything!
YAKON: But I can see you perfectly. (laughs wickedly)
Yakon attacks Goku, but his attacks were perfectly read by the Saiyan.
YAKON: Huh! How can you...
GOKU: I might not see you, but I can still sense you. And, there is a way for me to see you.
Goku turns into a Super Saiyan. The room is lit by the beam that's emanating from Goku.
GOKU: Now, I can see you.
Tumblr media
Yakon laughs wickedly.
GOKU: You don't seem worried.
YAKON: Because I'm not!
Yakon suddenly sucks in, siphoning the light energy emanating from Goku. Suddenly, Goku was turned back to his normal form, and darkness came back.
GOHAN: It's dark again!
VEGETA: Kakarot turned back to his normal form!
SHIN: I remember! Yakon absorbs light energy. He feeds on Goku's Super Saiyan form.
YAKON: That was delicious, the best that I've ever had.
GOKU: You ate that?
GOHAN: Dad! This monster absorbs light energy! You should not turn into a Super Saiyan again.
YAKON: (laughs wickedly) He's right. But if you want to, do that again by all means. That light was marvelous, it's the best I ever had.
GOKU: (to himself) If that's the case... (to Yakon) Okay then. I'll feed you.
Goku turns into Super Saiyan again.
VEGETA: What's Kakarot planning?
GOHAN: Dad! Don't do that! I'll just help you!
GOKU: No! This is my fight. Stay out of this!
YAKON: (laughs wickedly) I'm so happy you're so stupid! Now I can eat your light again!
SHIN: Goku is being foolish again! He should just let us help him fight.
VEGETA: No! He's not a fool. He's got a plan. Let's just watch.
Yakon sucked in all of Goku's light energy, but instead of transforming back to normal form Goku increased his power to continuously feed Yakon. The greedy monster continuously feeds until he can't handle it anymore. He explodes.
The floor opens up once again.
GOKU: The door's open. Let's go down!
Gohan and Vegeta follows.
GOHAN: That was great, Dad!
VEGETA: (on his mind) It seems like Kakarot can turn into Super Saiyan 2 as well.
They landed on the next floor.
GOKU: Gohan, it's your turn to fight. Have you been training?
GOHAN: Uh...
Gohan smiles nervously as he scratches the back of his head.
VEGETA: He's been slacking. We might be stronger than him now. I bet he cannot be as strong as he was back then even if he gets angry.
Gohan laughs embarrassingly.
SHIN: (on his mind) So that's it! That is why these humans are very confident. It's because they can power up whenever they want, just like what Goku did. I can't believe I've been surpassed by mere mortals.
The lone door on the room opens, and Dabura comes out.
SHIN: It's Dabura!
DABURA: I must admit, I'm impressed. No human has even gotten this far, having beaten Yakon. However, this is the end of the line because I'm going to end this once and for all.
VEGETA: Babidi's right-hand man is next? Is that all he has? How disappointing!
DABURA: Enough of this foolish talk! Go fight me!
GOHAN: It's my turn. You're fighting with me!
Tumblr media
PAPAYA ISLAND, EAST OF SOUTHERN CONTINENT
Meanwhile, Videl is now near the tournament venue. A familiar voice suddenly calls her.
GOTEN: (voice over) Hey Videl!
VIDEL: Huh?
She looks around and sees Goten and Trunks.
VIDEL: Goten!
The two kids come closer.
GOTEN: Where's Gohan? Aren't you with him?
VIDEL: I was, but I came back. They went on a mission.
GOTEN: Mission?
TRUNKS: Are our dads with them?
VIDEL: Yes.
GOTEN: What mission is this?
VIDEL: There was a magician named Babidi and he is about to unleash an evil monster named Majin Buu. Those two who attacked Gohan earlier took his energy to be used in reviving him. Kibito said that this Buu is very strong that is why their mission is to stop those two and Babidi from resurrecting the monster. Gohan and the others are all there to help them.
The two tots seem excited all of a sudden.
TRUNKS: A magician...
GOTEN: A monster...
TRUNKS: That's great!
GOTEN: Yes, Trunks! That sounds interesting!
VIDEL: (shocked) Huh?
TRUNKS: A Majin! We have to see it!
GOTEN: Yeah, I wanna see it!
The two look at the direction where Videl came from.
TRUNKS: It's over there! I can feel our dads' ki over there.
GOTEN: Let's go there now!
VIDEL: Wait! Don't do this!
TRUNKS: Let's fly fast! We might not see the Majin if we don't fly as fast as we can!
GOTEN: No way! I wanna see! I wanna see the Majin!
TRUNKS: Are you thinking what I'm thinking?
GOTEN: (nods) Uh-huh!
The two turns into Super Saiyans.
VIDEL: What!?
Without a word, the two kids fly to where Videl came from. Videl can only watch them fly away.
VIDEL: What had just happened?
She contemplates on the consequences of the little kids' descend.
VIDEL: I think I shouldn't have told them the truth.
Tumblr media
Left with no choice, Videl goes back to the tournament venue. As she flies into the arena, the awarding ceremony is about to start, with Master Satan as the winner again.
VIDEL: What? Dad?
Videl looks around and finds Chi-Chi and the others. They are at the terrace, ready to leave. Videl flies to them.
CHI-CHI: Videl! Where is Gohan?
VIDEL: I left him with Kibito.
CHI-CHI: Who's Kibito? What's going on, Videl? Where are the others?
VIDEL: I don't know, actually. All I know is they are on a mission to prevent another catastrophe to happen.
CHI-CHI: What do you mean?
Videl caught sight of Android 18. Then she looks at the ring.
VIDEL: Why is my dad being awarded the winner? (looks at Android 18) Didn't you go fight him? Was the game canceled because the others left?
Everyone is surprised at Videl's questioning.
ANROID 18: Y-Your dad's the world champion, right?
Videl looks at the group. They are all quite surprised at how she's acting.
VIDEL: I know... I know the truth now.
CHI-CHI: What truth?
VIDEL: (looks down) That my dad is a phony.
The group is silenced.
VIDEL: I now know the truth about what happened during the Cell Games. How... how my father claimed the victory even though it was... (looks at Chi-Chi) it was your husband... who defeated Cell.
Videl feels more embarrassed as she tells them the truth. She can't look straight at them, more so as they hear the people chant for his father.
She feels a hand touch her shoulder.
CHI-CHI: It's okay, Videl. It's not your fault.
Videl looks at Chi-Chi. The latter's smile makes her feel better.
CHI-CHI: Now please. Tell me. Where is Gohan and Goku?
VIDEL: They went to stop a magician named Babidi.
CHI-CHI: Babidi?
VIDEL: They said that this Babidi is the son of a late magician known as Bibidi. They came from another planet. Bibidi created an evil monster called Majin Buu. This Majin Buu is so strong that even the gods could not stop him.
CHI-CHI: Oh, good Lord!
Chi-Chi seems to faint at what she heard.
BULMA: So Vegeta and the others, they went to stop this... monster... whatever?
VIDEL: The monster was sealed away by the Kais a long time ago. They thought it will not be awakened again since Bibidi is dead. However, Babidi took from his father and is now planning to revive Majin Buu. That is the reason why he took Gohan's pure energy.
YAMCHA: So he wants to infuse the energy to Majin Buu?
VIDEL: That's right. The Supreme Kai came to stop it. Gohan and the others came to help.
BULMA: Well at least we know that Goku is with them.
MASTER ROSHI: With Goku and Vegeta, and then Gohan, I think we're in for a good fight.
VIDEL: There's just a little problem...
CHI-CHI: What is it?
VIDEL: This is my fault. I'm really sorry.
CHI-CHI: What are you saying?
VIDEL: While flying here, I saw Goten and Trunks.
BULMA: Oh, those two! What are they planning- (looks suspiciously at Videl) Don't tell me...?
Videl nods.
VIDEL: I told them where the others are. They said they want to see the majin...
BULMA: Oh... Trunks!
Chi-Chi seems like she's about to faint again.

Troubled Heart {The Thundermans}
Tumblr media Tumblr media
hiiiiiii i would like to make a max thunderman x reader request where there dating and shes a little shy and knows he has superpowers and he’s been missing dates because of z-force training and she understands and is quiet about her feelings until one day he comes to her house with flowers or something to apologize and he hears her crying and they make up? sorry if this is weird or complicated lol. if you write this thank you so much!
Pairing: Max Thunderman X Reader
Warnings: None…?
Words: 4.1K
Aye, another request done! Oof, this one took a while, hopefully I did it justice :)
You tapped your fingers gently against the metal table, checking your phone every few seconds to see if you’d gotten any new messages. You hadn’t, just like you hadn’t gotten any messages the whole night you’ve been at Splatburger. Looks like Max stood you up again for the fourth time this week which wouldn’t have been a problem but you hardly ever saw him. And if you did it was for a minute or two before he was dragged away by his sister Phoebe. You knew exactly why too, which is why you couldn’t complain, Max was training for his dream to be on the Z-Force. It was a huge deal in the superhero world as explained by him and Phoebe. And you were too timid to say anything because you didn’t want to seem like a selfish and terrible girlfriend.
You loved Max and you wanted to be a supportive girlfriend but you also wanted to spend time with your boyfriend. You were in quite the dilemma on deciding what to do, bite your tongue and quietly support him or talk to him. The thought of confronting him terrified you, well usually the thought of confronting anything scared you.
You sighed and checked your phone one more time before turning it off, you figured Max wasn’t going to text you any time soon. The two you were supposed to meet here to get something to eat, and since you’ve waited for over an hour, you were starving. You ordered some fries and watched them come down the tube before ordering a chocolate milkshake. A couple minutes later, a waiter came by with your milkshake. You sat there, staring absentmindedly at your milkshake, using the straw to stir it instead of drinking it. Your emotions completely overtook your appetite but you did take a couple long sips to make it look like you drank. And then after you paid and got up to leave, heading home and straight to bed.
It was only seven at night but you were ready to get the day over with.
When morning came, you were bummed that sleep didn’t help with your feelings and you were still feeling upset. But there wasn’t anything you could really do so you just got up and got ready. You took a quick shower and brushed your teeth and washed your face. You brushed and dried your hair, deciding to leave it down for today. You changed into a simple plain white shirt and some blue jeans before heading towards you kitchen. Your family was down there, your dad was sitting at the table with a cup of coffee and the newspaper. Your little brother was eating scrambled eggs, toast, and bacon that your mom made. And your mom had gotten up to make you something to eat as well.
“Hey sweetie, what are you feeling today?” She asked, standing by the fridge as she waited for your answer.
“Oh, I’m just gonna have some cereal today,” You told her.
She gave you a confused look, you were always looking forward to her breakfast foods. “Are you sure? Wouldn’t you prefer some pancakes or oatmeal with fruit?”
“Nah, that’s okay. I just want something light today,” You told her.
Truth be told, you still weren’t feeling that hungry but you didn’t want to worry them with your problems. Your mom nodded and sat back down while you got yourself a bowl, milk, and cheerios. You poured some cereal and then milk before putting them back in there spots. After, you got a spoon and your bowl before joining your family at the table. You ate your cereal slowly, unsure if you even wanted to finish it but with your family in front of you, you had to.
“How was your date with Max last night,” Your mom asked.
“He didn’t try anything did he?” Your dad asked somewhat jokingly.
“No dad, Max is a good boyfriend,” You said, rolling your eyes and smiling slightly. “It was great, yeah. I was with Max, it’s always great.”
You didn’t have much enthusiasm in your voice which your parents caught on to. They gave each other a look before your mom spoke up again. “Everything okay with your two?”
“Yup, peachy. Anyway, I should get going before I’m late,” You answered before getting up and placing your bowl in the sink.
You walked out of the kitchen slash dining room and went to grab your bag and slip your shoes on before leaving. School was a five minute walk away from your house so there was really no way you’d ever be late. Unless you woke up late or were purposely late of course. You just didn’t want your parents asking questions, you were a more private person. When you got to school, you made a beeline to your locker, you were also more of a introverted person. Hardly interacting with anyone unless they approached your first, you were a shy person by nature. Which was funny since Max is a very loud spoken person and he’s not afraid to have all eyes on him. Guess it’s true when they say opposites attract.
As you were switching out books for your first three periods, you didn’t notice a certain someone creep up behind you. “Guess who.” They said in a singsong voice.
You jumped a little from surprise, hearing soft laughter as you turned around to see your boyfriend. “Hey you.” You said, giving him your best smile but you could tell he sensed there was something wrong, he just didn’t know what.
“You okay?” He asked, sincerity in his voice.
“Yeah, I just didn’t get much sleep last night because my math homework was killing me,” You told him, making up an excuse.
“Awe, babe you know I’m here if you ever need help,” He said, slipping his arm around your waist and planting a kiss on the side of your head. It made you smile at how he was such caring boyfriend. “I’m sorry about last night, I promise you I’ll make it up to you.”
“Max, don’t worry about it. I know the Z-Force is your dream so just work as hard as you can for that. But not too hard, I don’t need you getting injured,” You replied, looking up at him and giving him a gentle smile.
He returned the smile and leaned down you kiss you, making your cheeks burn lightly. You still weren’t used to PDA, especially at school, which is full of nosy teenagers waiting for their next big scandal. After a few seconds you pulled away and shied away from him, embarrassed to be kissing in public. Max thought your shy attitude was rather adorable, he loved that about you and was never one to force you to be more open.
“You’re so cute. C’mon I’ll walk you to class,” He spoke, pulling away to allow you to get the rest of your things.
Once you closed your locker and situated your books in your arm, Max laced his hand with yours. Even just hand holding made you red in the face, it almost made you forget how Max kept ditching you. When you got to class, Max kissed you goodbye before you went inside. You really didn’t see Max again until fifth period since his classes were always in the opposite way of yours. At first, he’d always show up after every class to walk you to your next but since he was cutting it close to late, you told him to stop. It took a lot of convincing but when you told him that the Z-Force wouldn’t like tardiness, he stopped per your request.
When the end of fourth period rolled around, Max was patiently waiting outside your class room. He stood there with a wide smile, when you got close enough, he intertwined his hand with yours. You had lunch now, one of your favorite times of day because you actually got to spend some time with your boyfriend. The two of you sat outside, Max took the liberty of ordering food for the both of you. He expected it to be there as soon as the two of you got out there, and it was. Max broke away from you for a quick second to pay for the food and you went to find an open spot. Max had ordered your favorite, Chinese food from your favorite Chinese restaurant.
Max presented you with the food and the two of you started eating. You were happy, maybe you didn’t get to see Max yesterday but this certainly made up for it.
“So since we couldn’t hang out yesterday. How about I take you to see a movie tomorrow? Your choice,” Max offered.
“You’re not, you know, Z-Force training?” You asked.
“Right, well we can work around,” He said.
“That’s what you said last time,” You mumbled.
“What was that?” He asked.
“I said I can’t wait to see Crazy Rich Asians, I heard it’s amazing,” You “corrected”, giving him a smile.
You two went back to eating and before you knew it, it was time for your next class. Max walked you to your class and gave you a kiss before leaving for his. That was the last time you saw him that day, he had sent you text saying he had urgent Z-Force business to attend too. Of course he did.
When you got home, you went straight to your room to do your homework. You turned your phone on silent and put on your headphones with your music almost on blast. You even faced it down so you wouldn’t see when it lit up with some sort of notification. Yes, you were kind of ignoring Max because you didn’t want to say your true feelings. It was childish, yes, but you’d rather that than face your feelings and have to tell Max.
By the time you finished and finally checked your phone, you saw that you had gotten a few messages from Max. Hey, training ended early today. Wanna do something? When you didn’t respond to that one, he asked if you were napping, a habit of yours that he knew of. And when you didn’t respond to that one, he sent: yeah, you’re definitely sleeping. You decided to let him think that and not text him for the rest of the day.
The next day at school he confronted you on your unanswered texts you simply told him that you took a nap and didn’t wake up until later that evening. He believed you, of course, and let it go much to your relief.
“So, are we still on for Crazy Rich Asians?” You asked hopefully but deep down you knew the answer already.
“Ah right, Phoebe wants to try this new technique. She says it’ll better our chances of getting into the Z-Force,” He told you.
You blinked a couple of times in disbelief, then again what did you expect, before forcing a smile on your face. “Ah bummer, but make sure you work hard.”
“Always do babe,” He joked.
“Yeah, well, I’ll see you later,” You said, giving him a quick kiss on the cheek instead of his lips before heading inside your classroom.
Max stood outside confused for a few seconds, you always gave him a kiss on the lips. Or rather he gave you one, actually he was surprised you gave him a kiss at all. Maybe you were finally breaking out of your shell little by little. He shrugged his shoulders and left for his own class before he could be late. He didn’t need you or Phoebe on his ass about his tardiness.
When Max came to pick you up after fourth period, he was surprised to see that you weren’t there waiting for him. He thought about where else you could have gone, and there was really one other place you’d be. So, he headed to the library, really hoping that you’d be there otherwise he literally lost you. And when he found you sitting at a very secluded table, he was so glad his gut was right about your location. He approached your table, ready to ask why you left without him.
You felt someone’s eyes on you and with a quick glance you saw that it was Max. You quickly averted your eyes to the textbook in front of you, hoping he didn’t catch your gaze. You didn’t want to make it seem like you were avoiding him, even if you really were.
“Hey, what’re you doing here?” He asked.
“Oh, hey, I was just going to do some studying this period,” You told him.
“Why studying? Its so lame,” He practically whined.
“It’s not lame, Max, it’s what’s going to help us graduate,” You reminded.
“Not me babe, once Phoebe and I are in the Z-Force, we’re set for life,” He explained, taking a seat beside you.
You almost rolled your eyes at his statement, you were so sick of all the Z-Force talk. “Right I forgot, but I still need to graduate.”
“Nope, I’ve got you covered babe,” He said, smiling widely and taking your hand in his.
“My hero,” You said, mockingly.
“Yup, so let's go get some lunch,” He told you.
You looked at him for a second and nodded, there was no way he was going to let you avoid him. You ate lunch and after he walked you to your next class. He gave you a quick kiss before leaving to his class, leaving you with a small ache in your heart.
To your surprise you saw him throughout the day again, he came to pick you up a few times and walked you to your classes. It almost made you forget that he wasn’t canceling on you again, almost. And when school ended, he waited patiently by your locker so the two of you could go home together. You tried to enjoy all this open time he was spending with you, but you couldn’t. You knew that any second now he would leave to go back to his Z-Force training, leaving you to your thoughts of doubt. When you arrived at your house, he walked you up to the front door like the gentleman he is.
You wanted to ask him to stay, even if it was for just for five minutes but you couldn’t ask him to do that. He’s working so hard on his training you didn’t want to distract him, even if it meant sacrificing your time together. You kissed him goodbye before slipping inside your home, a slight pain tugged at your heart but you ignored it. You knew what it was, it was your heart telling you to talk to Max about his borderline neglect towards your relationship. But you couldn’t, he was working so hard to achieve his goal, you couldn’t just come in a ruin that.
You went straight to your room, ignoring your mom’s greeting, and holed yourself up in your room. You dumped your bag on your desk and crawled into bed. You pulled the covers over your head, leaving just enough open space for air to come in and out. You were starting to think that maybe Max wasn’t ready for a relationship right now.
There was a knock at your door but you told whoever was behind it to go away. They didn’t listen and you heard your door open up, your mom’s voice reaching your ears. You pulled the covers off you and sat up, your mom came in and sat at the foot of your bed. She could instantly tell that there was something bothering you.
“You wanna talk about it?” She asked, something straight to the point.
“Not really but if I don’t, its gonna eat me alive,” You told her.
She remained silent, her way of telling you that she was listening. You took a deep breath before telling her what was on your mind. Of course, you had to word it differently because she couldn’t know that Max and Phoebe were still superheroes. The whole of Hiddenville thought their powers had been taken away and they were now normal people. She listened to you carefully, sensing how hard it must’ve been to have kept this in for so long. Your mom knew you were a rather quiet and reserved person, voicing your thoughts and concerns was harder for you than most. When you finished, you looked at her in need, you needed your mom’s advice on this because you didn’t know what to do.
“This sounds like something you should really talk to Max about. I know it’s not much but this relationship is between the two of you, it should be discussed between the two of you. If you don’t tell people how you feel, then they’ll never know,” She told you.
You sighed deeply and nodded, you understood what she was saying, you just didn’t want to. She squeezed your leg in reassurance, everything would work itself out, before leaving you alone. You grabbed your phone and opened up your messages, staring at the ones you shared with him blankly. You had no idea what to say, let alone if you should say something about this. You knew you had too, you couldn’t just let your feelings be cooped up inside you forever. But you were afraid that if you told him about it, he would realize that he doesn’t have time for a relationship right now. And you being you would agree with him and support his choice without much a fight. You took a deep breath and texted Max the follow: Max, we need to talk. Whatever happens, happens but you just can’t keep this inside forever.
You set your phone down and hid back under the covers, terrified to see any sort of response. What if he does want to break up with you? The thought alone broke your heart and brought tears to your eyes, and before you knew it, you were silently weeping.
Max and Phoebe were in the middle of an intense training session when he heard his phone go off. He recognized the ring tone, it was the one he set for you. He stopped in the middle of fighting, earning an annoyed look from Phoebe.
“Max, seriously?” She asked.
“Yeah seriously, its {Name}, she wouldn’t text unless if it was urgent,” He said, dismissing her annoyed tone.
“We need to talk? What does that mean?” He asked out loud.
Phoebe stood beside him and read over his shoulder. “Maybe she realized she could do better and wants to break up.” She joked.
“What? You don’t actually think she wants to break up, do you? I mean I know we haven’t exactly been able to go on dates but she said she’s fine with it,” Max started rambling, panic setting in.
“Max, relax, she loves you for some odd reason. She wouldn’t just break up with you because of this,” Phoebe reassured him.
“Nope, I can’t take that chance,” He said before taking off.
“Wha? Max get back here, we’re not finished,” She shouted after him but he was already out of sight.
Anxious and scared at what 'we need to talk' meant, Max stopped along the way to get you a bouquet of flowers. If you were thinking about breaking up, then maybe he could convince you not too with his actions. He waited a patiently at your front door, uneasy at how things would turn out. Your mom answered the door and told him you were upstairs in your room. He thanked her before rushing off to you, stopping once he was outside your door. He stood there for a minute or so, composing himself and thinking of what he would tell you. He heard light sniffling from the other side of the door and automatically knew you were crying. He opened the door and rushed inside to see you laying in bed, in a little cocoon as you watched reruns of your favorite TV show.
You looked away to see who the intruder was, only to see Max standing in front of you. He had a bouquet of your favorite flowers in hand and a distraught look on his face. He was in workout attire and looked sweaty from his training.
“Max, what’re you doing here? Aren’t you supposed to be training?” You asked. You sat up in bed and shed off your little blanket cocoon.
“I was and then I got your text message. Are you okay? Is something wrong? Were you crying?” He asked worriedly.
You sniffled and broke his gaze, self-conscious about telling him what was on your mind. He walked closer to your bed and sat down beside you, presenting you the  flowers. You smiled warmly and took them, feeling even more selfish now for bringing this up. You were about to cry again, fresh tears welling up in your eyes. He placed his hand over your forearm, making you look up into his worry filled eyes.
“Tell me what’s wrong, you’re scaring me,” He said gently.
“It’s stupid,” You whispered, gripping your flowers tightly.
“Nothing you say is stupid, so please, tell me what’s wrong,” He told you, squeezing your arm reassuringly.
“It's just... I feel like you’ve forgotten about our relationship, ever since the Z-Force. And I know it's your dream and all, and I support you, I’m really proud of you and how far you’ve come. But I miss you too. I miss our dates, when I got you all to myself for a whole day. I didn’t want to say anything because I didn’t want to be selfish because you’re working so hard, but I just can’t hold it in,” You explained.
You wiped away the few tears that had fallen and looked down at your beautiful bouquet of flowers. You were waiting for him to reprimand you and your selfish thoughts. To tell you, you were being silly and that he didn’t have time for this. Hell, you were even waiting for him to realize that he didn’t have time for such a need girlfriend and break up with you. But what you heard come out of his mouth was the exact opposite of that.
“You’re right, I’ve been neglecting our relationship. This whole time you’ve been by my side, supporting me, when you could’ve just left. You deserve better than that, I’m surprised you’re still with me, because you could do a lot better.”
You looked up at him in shock that he would say something like, he was completely wrong. Max is the better you can do and no one will ever be able to beat him. “Max, that’s not true.”
“No, a good boyfriend would know when his girlfriend is feeling this way. All I can say is, I’m sorry. I promise you that’ll I pay better attention to you, to us. I’ll make Phoebe cut back on training, I mean between you and me, we have this thing in the bag,” He said, earning a smile from you from that last part.
“You don’t have to do this, I’m okay. You just worry about the Z-Force, I know everything’s going to work out,” You told him, hating that he was worrying about you.
“Yes I do, you’re my girlfriend and you deserve better,” He replied.
You nodded your head, making him grin widely before leaning over to kiss you. You kissed back, feeling much better now that you let that off your chest.
“So, how about I treat milady to that movie I promised?” He asked after pulling way.
“I’d like that…but only after you shower,” You replied, reminding him that he’s covered in sweat.
He nodded in agreement before leaving, telling you he’d be back in half an hour for that movie date. You got up to put the flowers in a vase and got ready for your date with Max, happy that everything was resolved.

Dragon Ball Z 020
Tumblr media
This is the Knife Lady episode.    I mean, there’s other stuff in this one, but come on.    I’m not gonna bury the lede here.
Tumblr media
Okay, so last time, Goku had to get used to the higher gravity on King Kai’s planet, so King Kai had him chase Bubbles around until he could catch him.    The last episode made it look like it only took one afternoon, but in this episode the narrator says it took him like three weeks, which seems fishy to me.   I feel like Toei messed up, one way or another.   Of course, there’s really no good way to mark the passage of time on this planet, so there’s no telling.
Anyway, the Bubbles exercise was in the manga.   This time however, it’s a filler episode, and Goku’s next challenge is to chase a cricket-looking creature named Gregory.   Gregory is a filler guy, but he appears in just about every King Kai scene from here on out.   It’s weird how seamlessly they worked him in, and then you read the manga and he’s just not there.
Tumblr media
King Kai says that the idea here is to improve Goku’s speed under the high gravity, so I’m pretty sure the only thing different about this exercise is that Gregory is faster than Bubbles.   Also, Goku has to hit him with a big heavy hammer, which will only slow him down more.  What could go wrong?
Tumblr media
Yeah...
Tumblr media
Meanwhile, on Earth, Gohan’s still improving under Piccolo’s training, but he gets knocked down a cliff anyway, and Piccolo orders him to climb back up.   For some reason he starts shouting random nouns at Piccolo and tells him to do the next one.   I guess this is some sort of game?
Tumblr media
On Kami’s Lookout, everyone has to wear weighted training clothes like Kami made Goku wear.    Krillin looks awesome in his, Yamcha looks a little off, and Tien and Chiaotzu look really weird.
Tumblr media
Why are they letting Chiaotzu take a breather?
Tumblr media
Yajirobe bites Krillin on the ass.  Hey, save that for the Saiyans, tiger.
Tumblr media
Later, Kami just tells the boys to leave and pursue their own training down below.  This whole thing feels like a total ripoff.   They had a year to prepare for the Saiyans and it took like four months just to get everyone up here, and then he tells him he won’t teach them anything, and now he’s sending them back with like three months to go.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Elsewhere, Master Roshi asks his sister, Fortuneteller Baba to look into the future and tell him how things turn out after the Saiyans arrive.   Baba gives it a go, but she can’t forsee anything, good or bad.   In the dub, she tells him “The Earth has no future!” which I always liked because it completely flies in the face of what she foresaw in the finale of Dragon Ball, when she peeked ahead to DBZ.   Things looked pretty rosy before, but now all bets are off.    The fate of the world is balancing on the head of a pin.
Tumblr media
Okay, that covers all the other stuff, let’s go back to Goku.    King Kai has them all break for lunch, and these two guys look adorable.   Not sure why Bubbles is wearing a hat... oh, wait, yes I do know.    While Goku was chasing Gregory one of them zipped right over the back of his head and shaved a stripe up his scalp, so he must be wearing the hat to cover it up.
Tumblr media
Goku asks King Kai what he knows about the Saiyans, on account of he is one, and he’s fighting two more later, so he kind of needs to know all he can.    King Kai offers to tell him the story, so Goku pulls up a chair for him.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This whole account was filler, so some of it has been retconned or just plain contradicted over the years, but it still forms the basis of a lot of Saiyan lore.   For example, this episode introduces the Tuffles as a second intelligent species that shared Planet Vegeta with the Saiyans.   The Tuffle concept would be used later in the OAV “Plan to Eradicate the Super Saiyans” as well as the Baby arc in Dragon Ball GT.
What never seemed to catch on, on the other hand, was the idea that the Tuffles were much smaller than Saiyans (or humans for that matter) due to the intense gravity of the planet.   The implication here is that the Saiyans are only as big as they are because they’re so strong, although I think later sources established that they emigrated to this planet from somewhere else.    At any rate, the Tuffle characters in GT and “Plan to Eradicate” always looked full-sized to me.
Tumblr media
Basically, the Tuffles ruled most of the planet, and they had all sorts of advanced technology to sustain their larger population.
Tumblr media
On the other hand, the Saiyans lived in primitive dwellings, with a smaller territory and a smaller population.
Tumblr media
King Kai’s flashback also puts them all in animal skins.   They sort of look like a cross between B-movie cavemen and artwork depicting early figures from the Bible.
Tumblr media
Here’s Knife Lady again.   She doesn’t do anything, but she looks awesome, and this episode is really the first solid evidence that female Saiyans existed.   That may seem silly to younger or newer fans, but I’ll bet there were a lot of fans in 1989 who figured female Namekians were going to show up, and that got shot to hell.   You just never know.
Tumblr media
At some point, the Saiyans got strong enough or bold enough to start attacking the Tuffles outright.  Again, note the size difference.
Tumblr media
The Tuffles invented weapons to fight back, so they weren’t completely helpless.   I always find this guy kind of ironic, because he looks a lot like Gohan in the Buu Saga, and he’s wearing a scouter, so he looks way more like a Saiyan than a Tuffle here.   I think the intent was to suggest that the Saiyans got their scouters from the Tuffles, but that won’t hold up in future episodes.   Besides, how could the Saiyans make use of Tuffle scouters?  They would be too small to wear.
Tumblr media
The problem for the Tuffles was that the Saiyans would turn into giant apes at the sight of the full moon.   This only happened once every eight years on Planet Vegeta, but it was often enough to turn the tide of the war.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Now, I feel like a dope, because this is the first time I ever watched this story in the original Japanese, and I see now that a lot of things were different when the story was translated to English.   The dub implied a relatively short war, lasting maybe a few years, or a generation at most, and ending on a single full moon.   The Japanese version tells of a much longer transition from Tuffle to Saiyan rule, with the Tuffles barely able to hold the line and the Saiyans steadily gaining ground every eight years.   This makes it sound like it took a long time for the Saiyans to take control of the planet, and that would explain the fuzzy booties, among other things.   I always found King Kai’s story a little unsatisfying for only covering the last decade or so of Saiyan history, but it looks like he was actually going back a little further than that.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Also interesting: the term “Arcosian” was a dub-ism.   I just always took it for granted that these robed aliens had a name in the Japanese script, but they don’t.   Fans have adopted “Arcosian” as a name for Frieza’s species, although the terms “Ice-jin”, and “Frost Demon” have also been used, along with others I’m probably not aware of.    It makes sense, seeing as how these “Arcosians” are basically doing in this flashback what Frieza and King Cold actually did.
On the other hand, now that I see the context of this flashback, I start to wonder if it makes more sense for the Saiyans to have overrun the Tuffles a long time ago.   Let’s say 100 years before Goku’s birth.   These robed aliens gave them the means to travel further into space, and the Saiyans operated as an independent kingdom for a while until they finally fell under King Cold’s influence.   I’m not sure how well that gels with some of the other lore, but I think I like that better, since it gives Saiyan history a chance to breathe.   It always irked me how they beat the Tuffles and got taken over by Frieza almost immediately.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The biggest flaw in King Kai’s tale is the part where he explains the destruction of Planet Vegeta, which Raditz attributed to meteors.   King Kai says this was done by the Kami of Planet Vegeta, as a way to punish the Saiyans for their evil deeds.   You’d think he would have stepped in a lot sooner, back when the Saiyans were killing all the Tuffles, but better late than never.
Really, the idea of the Saiyans falling victim to divine justice was a cool idea, but the problem is that it suggests that King Kai really knows what happened here, and as we’ll later learn, he has no clue.   But Toei has him speaking with great authority on this subject, like he witnessed this happening.
On the other hand, this is sort of true.    According to Battle of Gods, Beerus chose to have Planet Vegeta destroyed, and he tasked Frieza with doing so.  Who’s to say that Beerus didn’t ask Planet Vegeta’s Kami to handle it first, and then he went to Frieza when the Kami botched the job?
Tumblr media
King Kai also states that only four Saiyans survived the planet’s destruction, which again sounds kind of weird because it implies that he went and counted them personally, except he ended up being wrong.   I’m not trying to nitpick here, I’m just saying that this can be the trouble with filler scenes.   The writers need to leave themselves a little wiggle room in case things get changed later.    Essentially, King Kai is just reinforcing everything that Raditz said in Episode 2.   Well, Raditz can be misinformed, but it’s a little off for King Kai to have his facts wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway, Goku gets all fired up and wants to get back to his training right away.
Tumblr media
He catches Gregory and gives him a little tap on the head.   Gregory brags that he’s tougher than Goku gives him credit for...
Tumblr media
... but he’s still got a bump on his head.
Tumblr media
King Kai is encouraged by Goku’s rapid progress, and believes that Goku might be good enough to learn the Kaio-ken, a technique so advanced that it’s just a theory he invented.   And he has another technique even cooler than that, but we’ll learn about that one another time.

Question
For Gladmoon Day 2: Nerine (Connection, Happiness, Security and Affection) Many, many thanks to my beta Artpharos, without whom this fic would be a bland and unreadable mess ;w; Read on AO3
---
Eleven years since they first met on Route 5. Four since they started dating. (Officially, at least. Hau always claimed they were flirting scandalously for three years before that, and Lillie was the only reason he didn’t lock them into a room and save the rest of them.) In any case, it was time.
Gladion mounted the flight of stairs leading to the final room on Mt. Lanakila. Pausing midway to check his Pokemon over again, he swallowed. Today, there was no room for careless mistakes.
Today, he would defeat the Champion.
As he cleared the last few steps and came into view of the Champion’s throne, he saw Moon crouched at one side, refreshing her Ninetales. She turned, and her eyes lit up at the sight of him.
“Gladion! I didn’t know you were coming today!” she greeted cheerily, straightening. As usual, his heart warmed at the sight of her radiant smile.
“Thought I’d surprise you,” he said with a crooked smirk. “The team and I have been making plans for your downfall.”
Moon chuckled. “Oh? So you think that today will be different from the hundreds of other times we’ve battled, hm?”
"Of course.” His fingers closed around Crobat’s Pokeball, its familiar weight reassuring in his hands.
Moon dropped the teasing at once, eyeing him thoughtfully for a moment. Then she grinned.
“All right then. Show me what you’ve got, Challen—“
“Wait!”
Moon stumbled mid-throw, almost dropping her Pokeball (Kommo-o, probably). Wobbling, she regained her balance. As Gladion snorted, she glared at him in mock exasperation.
“Next time, warn me before you startle me like that, maybe?”
“If I win… I have something to ask you.”
Moon blinked. “O….kay? What is it?”
Gladion lifted Crobat’s ball in reply, and she laughed.
“Let’s go!”
As usual, the moment the battle began, the pent-up nerves plaguing him for the past few hours disappeared. Fighting alongside his team had become second nature to him, and battling Moon was always fun.
He loved watching her, marveling at her instinctive reactions and sound judgment. He loved the way she moved, steady and relaxed, the way her hands gestured as she gave instructions to her Pokemon. He loved how she called out encouragement to them, her voice clear and confident.
Her words of praise and comfort each time a match ended. Her taunts at him, shot teasingly across the battlefield. Her honest admiration and appreciation each time he and his team pulled off an impressive attack or combination. Her eyes, sparkling with delight at the challenge.
He loved battling Moon, not just because he liked battling, but because she never shone brighter than when she was in battle.
His eyes almost ached from the radiance of her. She was wonderful, magnificent, perfect. Right from the start, she had inspired him to train harder, to become stronger, that he might one day defeat her. But now, it was more than just the title. He wanted to be strong so that he could be worthy of her. So that he could stand by her side, as an equal.
And now, here was the chance to prove it. Each time they battled, Moon had won, but Gladion knew that it was not impossible for that to change. Rather than a lack of ability on any side, it was a split-second judgment, or chance, or simply a careless mistake, that decided the outcome for each individual match.
His Pokemon were strong, and their instincts were good, and he was positive that they had a shot at winning. All he needed was a clear opportunity.
Kommo-o’s victory. Weavile’s win. Match to Toxapex. Porygon-Z. Porygon-Z again. Vikavolt. Silvally.
And then Moon sent out her Decidueye.
The two Pokemon clashed, claws ripping, dropping feathers, shrieking and whistling at each other. Silvally was physically stronger, but Decidueye was faster, and had the advantage of flight.
There! Decidueye landed and drew an arrow. Instantly, Gladion whistled. Silvally leapt into action, racing around the stadium, never letting Decidueye get a clear shot. But Decidueye was used to his movement pattern, and in a heartbeat, it fired.
Moon’s eyes widened. “Wait, Deci! It’s a Sub—“
Too late. Silvally pivoted as the Substitute collapsed, slamming into Decidueye with another Multi-Attack. Decidueye screeched in pain as one of his wings flamed, and he crumpled to the ground.
"That's it, Silva! Keep going!" Gladion yelled.
Silvally opened its mouth, readying a Crunch, but at Moon's cries, Decidueye opened his eyes and rolled to dodge. Silvally spun round---
And stumbled across the leaf vines Decidueye had stretched out under him.
"Sucker Punch!"
It was over. Silvally had fainted, and Moon was hugging Decidueye, cheering and laughing. Gladion walked over to his partner and lay a hand on his head. Silvally stirred, moaning slightly.
"You did your best, buddy. Rest now," he said gently, recalling him.
It was so close. They had been so close. For a short-lived moment, he really thought that they had won. The end had arrived in such a rush, leaving him with a slightly stunned numbness. But Decidueye's improvisation using the vines of his hood... Gladion shook his head in wonder.
"That was..."
"Amazing work there!" Moon said excitedly. "You and Silva must have worked really hard. I didn't know you'd taught him Substitute, and to be able to make one and switch it in without us noticing.... Genius!"
"We were still no match for you and Deci," Gladion said wryly. The tension he had felt had disappeared when the battle ended, and disappointment was beginning to sink in.
"That's 'cause Deci's always improving too, aren't you, boy?" She ruffled the leaves on his head, and he trilled at her. She grinned and turned back to Gladion. "But you two were still absolutely awesome. You've become so strong!"
Gazing at the sincere smile on her upturned face, Gladion felt his heart swell with warmth, and the slight bitterness that had engulfed it trickled away.
"You two, as well. That move with his vines, it was brilliant. Well done, Deci," he said, patting the ghost owl child.
Each time he lost to Moon, it was difficult to remain despaired, because she was always so gracious. Always praising him honestly for his efforts, and for everything he did that she found remarkable.
She really is the perfect Champion, he thought, his lips curving into a smile as he watched her recall Decidueye.
"I'm proud of you, Moon," he said.
Moon tilted her head to one side. "What's up, all of a sudden?" she teased. "No matter how you flatter me, I'm not gonna let you try my throne."
"Oh, for---! I've told you before, I'm not interested in sitting on cold, hard stone!"
"You're just jealous that I have a cool throne and all you got is a lame office chair."
"You don't like my chair?"
"Nope."
"I'll remember that the next time I catch you spinning in it."
Moon opened her mouth to retaliate, realised she had no good comeback, and pouted. Gladion smirked, and she punched him in the arm, laughing.
"I'm proud of you too, Glad." She reached over and embraced him. "Thanks for the great battle!" Gladion returned the hug, pressing his cheek against hers, enjoying the sweet, familiar scent of lavender wafting from her hair.
There goes the plan, though. Time to think of something else, I guess.
"Oh, wait," Moon drew back and gazed at him. "So... since I won, do I get to ask you a question then?"
"Uh--- what?" Gladion blinked. "I... suppose?"
Moon grinned. Before he could move, she plunged her hand into his right pocket and drew out the ring case he had secreted there. Gladion's eyes widened, and his jaw dropped.
"Wha…!! I... You... H-How did you know!?” he exclaimed. Moon grinned sheepishly.
"I was in your office last Monday... While you were at the meeting with Wicke, remember? I was playing with Silvally and he knocked over your bag. This spilled out, and he wanted to play fetch with it. And... I opened it. Out of curiosity," she admitted.
"You've known since then? And you didn't say a word?"
"Weeeeelll... I wanted to see how you'd ask." Moon giggled. "That's why, just now, I kind of guessed, when you said you had something to ask me."
"So much for a big surprise," Gladion muttered with a sigh.
"Hey, I really appreciate the effort. I mean, a guy who comes up with a completely new and effective strategy for a battle, and trains hard with it, just to propose? That's the most romantic thing I've ever seen." She snickered as he groaned, burying his face in his hands.
"Just kill me now," he grumbled.
"I'll take you up on that offer one night." Moon waggled her eyebrows at him, chuckling when his face reddened. "But for now..."
She opened the ring case. "We're getting married, right?"
Gladion lifted the ring from its silken nest and slipped it onto her finger. "The answer is yes."
Moon beamed, her eyes shining with love and happiness. He could feel the ridiculously big smile on his own face, threatening to split it. As he pulled her closer, he leaned over to whisper in her ear.
"Just so you know, I'm still going to take the title from you one day."
Moon laughed, and kissed him.

a/n: its been too long. but i’m finally back to writing! that’s if anyone is still up for reading this 👼🏻 anyways, please let me know how u feel about this chapter! also i didn’t proofread.
             “Hey-”
             “Hey!”
You stop in your footsteps when you feel a hand land on your shoulder, meeting eyes with Jungkook – who’s catching his breath when he calls your name. With a small smile on your lips, you pull your earphones out of your ear.
“Sorry, I – uh -” You gestured at the white earbuds, “couldn’t hear you.”
Jungkook flashes his signature bunny grin, giving you a brief shake of his head. “It’s fine.” He looks down on the floor for a short second, before meeting your gaze again. “So, um - you suddenly left yesterday-”
Memories from yesterday flood in. After the realization of your growing affections for the boy, it was painful to witness Jungkook look at Daeun like she was his world, his everything. You were getting ahead of yourself again, false expectations of something more. Jungkook has always seen you with a friend, he never did anything that made you believe otherwise. No, you couldn’t ruin your friendship with him like that, you couldn’t betray Jungkook.
“Oh – I got a text from Tae, saying he needed my help for something.” Words flow out smoothly as you lie without hesitation.
Jungkook’s eyes flashes with worry, “Did something bad happened?” He takes a step closer and a rush of guilt hits you for lying to his face. “Are you alright? Yo- you didn’t get hurt or anything, right?”
You quickly shake your head, dismissing any uneasiness that was lingering in his mind. “It was nothing important! He was just asking me about the-” You pause, quickly saying out the first thing that pops in your head “-physics assignment.” You start nod repeatedly, hoping that you can convince him more than you convinced yourself.
“I see…” Jungkook mumbles, looking away to quickly scan the walking crowds on campus grounds. You stall for a moment, scolding yourself that you have to stop acting so weird before Jungkook realises that something has changed.
“Are you okay, though?” You ask, sincere eyes peering at him. “Your talk with Daeun, I’m guessing that it all went well…?” It was hard to miss how Jungkook’s lips pull into a grin again, beaming with happiness. There was no doubt that the boy had been waiting to discuss about this topic with you. That’s what you are good for – when he had girl problems.
“I thought about it, Y/N. I really did.” He tells you, “From now on, I’m going to really focus on being her friend again – someone that she needs. And whatever feelings I have right now, I’m sure they’ll go away eventually, you know?”
“Right…they’ll go away…” Your voice echoes after Jungkook, telling yourself the same exact words. You need to pull yourself out of this tangled web of suppressed feelings before you sink in even deeper. “I’m happy for you, Kook. I really am.” A warm smile is playing on his lips when he hears your response, making you naturally returning the gesture. “By the way, we’re still on for tonight?”
His eyes widen, before muttering a curse under his breath.
             “….and you forgot.”
A surge of panic flashes across Jungkook’s features, creating a little knit between his eyebrows. “It-it’s just that I promised Daeun yesterday that we’d do a movie night just like the old ti- I’m so, so, sorry, Y/N. You know how long it has been since we’ve – ”
It can’t be helped that you could only look away in slight disappointment, trying to focus on the scrambling students in the background rather than the boy in front of you. Jungkook seems to have sense your sudden change of mood, stopping himself immediately.
“Actually, I’ll just ask Daeun if we can do a raincheck. I promised you first, it’d be unfai-”
“It’s fine, Kook.” You interrupt him, suddenly feeling bad at how difficult you were making things for him. You told yourself to never be one of those girls, the ones that played mind games and guilt trip people around them. You’ve already decided that you are going to stick by his side as a good friend, and you should follow through. “You go have fun with Daeun, okay? We can just go to the new arcade another today.” A convincing smile plays at your lips, and Jungkook fails to hide the sudden look of relief on his face.
“You are seriously the best, Y/N.” He wraps his arms around you, so tightly that your laughs end up sounding like you were choking. “I’ll make it up to you next time – I swear. But for tonight, I think you should still go to the arcade, you deserve a break after your exams.” Jungkook suggests, a grin on his lips. “Besides, Taehyung would cry in happiness if he could go with you.”
“Tae? I thought you said that he was busy when I asked you to invite hi-”
Jungkook stifles a laugh, eyes shifting away from your gaze.
“-Jeon Jungkook! You didn’t invite him, again?” Your eyes narrow into slits, playfully slapping the boy on his arm. Jungkook backs away, eyes smiling so hard that you couldn’t even see them anymore. Before he runs away from your flaming wrath of fury, he shouts.
“I’ll tell Tae to meet you at 8:00!”
And it turns out that not only was your date late – but it was also different Kim that greeted you.
             Kim Namjoon.
He was still catching his breath when you felt a tap on your shoulders, finding Namjoon standing before you. Even in a state of frenzy, he still manages to look strikingly handsome – expected no less from the boy who stole your heart in your high school days. He has a small dimpled smile on his lips when he shyly waves to you. You, on the other hand, did not look so pleased at the new visitor.
“Why are you here?” Your voice was cold, matching the stoic and emotionless expression on your face. “I was told that Taehyung would meet me instead.”
Namjoon frowns slightly, unable to hide his disappoint at the obvious distance that you’ve casted between the two of you. “Always the coldness, huh?” When he sees your lack of response at his comment, he quickly tries to gather your attention before you can turn your back on him. “I was beside Tae when Jungkook called him, and…kind of overheard about your plans on coming here tonight.” He pauses to take a look at whether you were actually listening or not. “Taehyung was supposed to be the one meeting you here tonight – but then he suddenly remembered about his Zoology midterm tomorrow and was kind of panicking because that kid has seriously not touched a single page of his material since school started but then he was afraid that if he told Jungkook he won’t get another chance to chill with you because Kook can be a little possessive piece of shit at tim-”
Namjoon halts when he notices your impatience ticking away – he appears to have gone off track, again. He quickly clears his throat, feeling a little jittery under your cold gaze and it’s just always been so entertaining to him how you – someone so small and endearing like you could always make him feel like a young boy with his first love. ‘Pull yourself together, Namjoon. It’s not the time to be reminiscing about how stupid you’ve been to have let this girl-“.
“I’m not here to listen about how much of a little shit Jungkook is, because I’m well aware of that already.” You calmly speak, interrupting his train of thought. There were no traces of humor on your face but Namjoon knew – that this was your way of telling a joke. It’s a little peculiar on how you expressed yourself at times but he could almost feel his heart tighten at how adorable you looked in this moment.
Namjoon chuckles softly before speaking again. “Pretty much, I watched Taehyung have a mini-mental breakdown and offered to go in his place, sincerely.”
You perch your lips. “Doesn’t seem that sincere considering that you were late for 20 minutes-”
A brown cup holder with 2 bubble teas appear within your vision, with a slightly flustered Namjoon in the back. “I wanted to surprise you with your favourite drink.” He pauses when he sees the glint in ur eyes and a hint of your smile. “And I already exchanged the tokens for the games.” You look down at his other hand and find a plastic bag with numerous silver coins.
Namjoon stands still in front of you, eyes glued on the floor - afraid to look up and face the possibility that you were already gone. Instead, a hand snatches one of the drinks and walks past him. Namjoon immediately turns around and finds you raising your eyebrows at him.
“Well, are you gonna come with? Or…” You take a sip of your drink, attempting to hide your smile.
“Y-Yeah!” Namjoon almost jumps up with enthusiasm as he follows you close behind.
By the end of the night, you’ve already lost count of how many times Joon has made you  laugh so hard that you felt tears at the corners of your eyes. To his dismay, they were not intentional - most of them were attempts to be cool but all ended up being the opposite. And with only a few coins left, the both of you decided to try your luck at the claw machine.
Namjoon almost broke the glass when he walked straight into a machine that had these baby blue koala pillows. You walked towards the other side of the machine and almost squealed at how cute the koalas looked with a soft sleepy smile. You chuckle when you see that Namjoon is still staring at the dolls - cheeks squished against the glass and eyes gleaming.
Perhaps its moments like these when you remember why Namjoon is your first love.
“Okay move over, Joon. Let the master show you how its done.” You stretch dramatically and smugly jut your chin forward.
“W-wait! That’s not how it’s supposed to be! I’m supposed to be the one who-” Namjoon doesn’t even have a moment to react before you give him a light push to slide over. A finger lands on his lips, and he stares at you in mild surprise.
“Hush, young one.” You whisper under your breath, “I need to be in my zone.” In response, you receive soft laughter emitting from his lips that was soon silenced by your glare.
“It’s all yours.” He bows at you teasingly. Neither of you spoke another word when you moving the handle, with absolute silence in the background. Namjoon watches in tension as the claw starts moving towards the doll, coming down to pick at the ear-
             And it misses.
“Argh!” You let out a frustrated grunt. “Stupid Kim Namjoon! You interrupted me with your loud stupid voice!” At this point, Namjoon could only look at you with a loving smile on his lips – he has realised that he was absolutely weak for you. It was unbearable for him to see how damn cute you are. The revelation bring him back to a conversation with Yoongi hyung back in his third year.
“Honestly, she is just batshit crazy!” Namjoon groans as he slams the door shut, causing a surprised Yoongi to flinch.
“I’m guessing you’re talking about Jessica?” He resumes munching on the pack of chips in his hands, eyes unfazed as he continues his Nolan marathon.
“It’s only been like – what, 2 weeks? –  since we’ve started dating and she’s already throwing her temper at me!”
‘Damn, Anne Hathaway really does make a good catwoman’, Yoongi thinks.
Namjoon doesn’t notice Yoongi’s lack of attention so he continues anyways. “I was just asking my classmate, who just so happens to be a female, about our midterm and she gets so fucking jealous about it!” His voice thunders across the entire house, finally bringing Yoongi to cast a glance towards his direction. At this very moment, the new Alpha Sig recruits downstairs shudder in fear at the shouting above. A silent remainder to never piss of the VP Internal – the man is not the composed and friendly person he appears to be.
             “Okay…but –”
“And the worst part? She does all this in the library where everyone is trying to study!” Namjoon flops onto Yoongi’s bed and groans, oblivious to his friend’s eyebrow twitch.
Yoongi finally puts his chips down and turns his chair to face the younger man, fingers adjusting his glasses upwards. “First of all,” He blinks, “Get. Off. My. Bed.”
It doesn’t take another word for Namjoon to quickly slide onto the floor – eyes looking up towards Yoongi, who then grunts in approval and goes back to his laptop screen.
“Second, you don’t seem to even like the chick that much. Why are you even dating her?”
“Uhh –” It takes a few moments before Namjoon speaks again. “she’s hot?” His tone sounds unconvincing to Yoongi. “Plus, Prez been telling me that Alpha Sig always goes for the hottest girls. And the Kappas, are the equivalent to hot girls.”
Yoongi laughs, not the sincere ones – but more of the single “Hah!” that he always does. “So you’re dating a bimbo – who can’t tell the difference between HIV and HPV, to show our equally intelligent President, that you got ‘game’.” Yoongi’s words drip in sarcasm. “Sounds about right, kid.”
Before Namjoon can further question his friend’s presence in the fraternity, Yoongi speaks up again to defend himself. “Like I said too many times, I’m only apart of this frat for the credentials and the singles room. Also, my fossil of a brother was like the President a few decades ago so I didn’t even need to go through hazing.”
“Didn’t Joonki sunbae-nim like graduate only two years ag–”
“As I was saying,” Yoongi interrupts him, “Look Namjoon, if the girl is someone that you truly like, then everything she does will only make you fall for her harder. Even when she’s roasting your head in flames– it’d be cute.”
Namjoon snaps out of his daze when he realises that there were no more tokens left. He sees you holding the last coin, eyes tightly shut and suddenly widening them. As you insert it into the machine, you’re mumbling some sort of good luck chant and Namjoon could finally understand what Yoongi meant.
             “Yeah, definitely cute.” He whispers.
You snap your head to the left. “What did you say?” Your attention on Namjoon was short-lived because before he could respond with some lame, made-up answer, the happy tune starts playing from the machine again.
“One last time, I got this!”
             A little more right…more…mor–perfect!
You clench your eyes shut to press the button, slightly hesistant to make the final move. And right before you press your finger down, Namjoon stealthily tilts the handle towards the left. Oblivious to the change, you bob your head excitedly along with the music as the the two of you watch the claw coming down and catches the koala right in the centre.
You let out a squeal that catches the attention of your neighbours, who consisted of other college students releasing their stress on a Wednesday night. Oh yeah, Namjoon was definitely getting some familiar stares. “Joon! I did it!” You jump up and down whilst slapping your hand against his arm. He happily grins at you in return.
             “Yeah, you did.”
The impatience and excitement running in your blood makes you pick up the pillow before it is even released from the claw. And in your arms, the pillow feels exactly as soft as it looks. As you gently brush your hands against the plushie, you notice that the koala’s smile oddly reminds you of Namjoon himself. It takes a short moment before you remember to hand the prize towards Namjoon. “Here! For you.”
If you were trying to hide the fact that you really like the doll as well– you failed miserably. The president was not short of being called ignorant by other girls, but let’s just say that the ignorance was selective. Instead, he just playfully pinches your cheeks and softly shakes his head.
“No, you keep it.” Namjoon pushes the prize back towards you. “You’re the one who got it.”
“Yeah, but I said that I’d win it for yo-”
“I have a lot of stuffed animals in my bedroom already. Don’t worry about it.”
You look up towards Namjoon, “You sure?” He nods in reassurance, lips pulling into a wide grin when you jump up in happiness. If you weren’t so occupied with your newly prized possession, you would be able to see that Namjoon looks at you as if you were the galaxy itself.
“Come on, let’s go.” He nudges you on the shoulder. “I’ll walk you home.”
The walk back was calm with a comfortable silence between the two of you. The stars above twinkled in the clear sky. For the first time since forever, you feel as if you can face Namjoon with a smile again.
Everybody deserves a second chance– you think to yourself.
Sure, Namjoon is your first love, but he was also your friend and confidant before you let your feelings control the best of you. And whatever that happened in your first year, he already apologised. There shouldn’t be a reason for you to hold onto the past if it only makes you miserable.
Your thoughts are interrupted when Namjoon clears his throat.
“It’s your stop.” He tilts his head in the direction of your apartment building– with a smile that has never left his lips for the entire night.
“Oh, right. Sorry, I was totally dazing off-”
“Actually, I have something to tell you.” He speaks up again, unsure whether he should continue. But when you are looking at him without a hint of hostility in your eyes, he takes it as sign to keep going.
“I just– I want to properly apologise for what I did back then.” Namjoon’s eyes stay on your own, unwavering and focused. “I wish I had a good reason, but I really don’t. My judgement was clouded by my peers and– wait no– I shouldn’t blame it on someone else.” His gaze on you lowers, letting his bangs cover his eyes. “I became too engrossed at how others saw me– I wanted to fit in so badly.” A sigh escapes from Namjoon’s lips.
“Joon, it’s okay. I get it.” You walk towards the boy, fingers softly brushing the hair falling down on his face. “We all make mistakes-”
“No, Peanut, it’s not okay.” Namjoon gives himself a moment before continuing. “I wanted to be validated by people who wanted me to be someone I wasn’t. So I did things– things that I shouldn’t have done and…hurt the people that meant the world to me.” He takes a short breath in between. “No, they still mean the world to me.” The last part came out as a soft murmur and Namjoon regretted it instantly.
He needed to tell you how he truly feels about you– no more hiding and being afraid.
You suddenly feel warmth against your hand, finding Namjoon’s hand wrapped around your own, so tightly as if he was afraid that you would disappear. “I must right my wrongs. And this time, I won’t hesitate to chase after what I want.” His brown eyes pierce into yours and all the uneasiness was now determination.
“I won’t let you go– not this time.”
“Just come meet me at the frat house first! The guys miss you, especially Taehyung.” A voice blares through your phone, “I don’t get why you’re suddenly avoiding the place.”
You let out an unamused grunt across the line. “I just– I don’t wanna.” A few seconds of silence pass through before Jungkook speaks again.
“Did something happen?” His voice comes out to be a lot more serious, changing the atmosphere of the conversation immediately. “If one of the guys did anything to you, I swear– ”
“Nothing happened, Kook!” A surge of panic rushes through you, not wanting Jungkook to overreact. “Fine, I’ll come. Meet you in 10?”  You can feel Jungkook beaming in victory across the other line.
“See you!” He exclaims before you hang up in him.
The walk to Alpha Sig took less than 10 minutes, but that was considering the fact that you walked in a rather brisk pace. Before you knew it, you find yourself in front of the familiar brown building with white pillars. Upon entering, Jin immediately gives you his warmest smile and greets you.
“Y/N! It’s been a while. Looking for Jungkook?”
A nervous smile casts upon your face, hoping not to dwell in the foyer for too long. Jin doesn’t fail to notice how your eyes were dodgy and looking around the house as if you were searching for someone.
“Or are you avoiding someone?” He teases.
             “Maybe– both?” You reply sheepishly.
Jin chuckles to himself, amused to the ordeal that you were going through. “He just left like an hour ago, said something about writing his midterm paper.”
Relief rushes through you as you say thanks to Jin before running up the stairs and heads straight to Jungkook’s room.
As you close the door behind you, Jungkook bounces up from his bed and comes to you with his signature bunny grin. “You’re finally here!” He sings, “God, that 10 minutes felt like forever.”
You can’t help but chuckle at how adorable he was. Sometimes you wonder if Jeon Jungkook is the same infamous campus fuck boy that you first met him as –  which brings to you realise, Jungkook hasn’t seem to be sleeping around lately. Not since the two of you have been practically seeing each other every single day. Although the past week has been a little different, with Jungkook sometimes cancelling on you or telling you that he wasn’t in the studio.
Nonetheless– he was still your good friend.
“So, Kook,” You walk to his desk chair and sit down. “What do you want to do today?”
“Actually, I kind of wanted to go to this new vegan place downtown. But I just checked the weather report and it’s going to rain soon.” Jungkook looks like a disappointed toddler who got his candy taken away when he mentions the forecast. “I really wanted to bring you there because I know how much you love that health conscious stuff.”
“It’s alright.” You reassure him, giving him a soft tickle on the chin. “You know I’d always be down for a movie and delivery.”
“But we always do that.” Jungkook furrows his eyebrows, “I want to do more– I don’t know– date stuff?” The last part comes out soft, as if he was shy about saying it.
“Date stuff?” Now this boy was just making you very confused.
Jungkook scratches his ear, looking a little perplexed. “I mean like, dates between friends.” He speaks quickly, unsure himself of where this conversation was heading.
“Jungkook, leave all the fun date ideas and whatnot for when you actually start dating someone that you like.” Your tone is laidback and playful. And for a moment, it almost looks like Jungkook’s eyes are brimming with hidden emotions. You quickly brush away any speculations though, because Jungkook would never– yeah, you definitely thought wrong.
“But when you’re with your good ol’ pal– me. You know I’d be good with just chilling and doing absolutely nothing.”
             “But-”
“No buts.” You interrupt him, with a sneaky grin on your face. “Now quickly choose a movie and a place where we can stuff our faces with food from.”
Jungkook looks at you for a short moment before giving you a smile. “Yeah, okay.”
“I’m going to take a quick shower first, okay? The walk here made me kind of sweaty and gross.” When he gives you a brief nod, you walk into his closet to grab a clean towel. It never fails to amuse you how organised Jungkook was when it comes to doing his laundry. Perhaps you should make him start doing your dirty laundry for you. You grab the one with a giant pig nose print on it – that brat bought it especially for you to use – and head to the bathroom. “You better be done choosing when I’m finished!” You pressure the boy behind you, who just laughs and throws his clean t-shirt in your way.”
             “Aye aye Captain.”
Stepping out of the bathtub, you pat yourself dry before slipping into Jungkook’s tee and your own sweats. Right before you were about to open the door, you notice that there were voices on the other side. “Is Hobi back?” You mumble to yourself but then realise that it was a female voice. It starts with quiet and unstable sobbing, gradually calming down before the girl whispers her next words.
             “Kookie, help me forget. Please.”
There is something unsettling stirring inside of you that made you feel like that things are about to go wrong, very wrong.
Jungkook sighs softly on the other side. “I-I can’t. This is wrong.”
You didn’t want to intrude on Jungkook’s privacy so you decided that it was best to stay in the bathroom until the matter was solved. It wasn’t like you wanted to eavesdrop into their conversation but they were not exactly being discreet with their voices. Silence fills the air before someone speaks again.
“It didn’t stop you from the first time.” It was the girl again.
“Stop mentioning that.” His voice bursts in pain. “I deeply regret for making it happen.” The agony in Jungkook’s voice makes your own heart to ache. And there is only one person you can think of who could make Jungkook suffer like that. “We shouldn’t have done that to J-”
“Well guess what?” She pauses before screaming the next part. “Fuck Jimin!” You start to hear louder sobs on the other side. “I can’t do this anymore, I should have chosen you instead. You wouldn’t have treated me like this, right?”
Jimin? What the hell was going on? All the puzzle pieces come together when you realise that it must be Daeun who was speaking to Jungkook outside, but the conversation was just making you very confused. Your scattered thoughts keep you deeply bothered for a few long minutes, blocking on the noises from outside. You were unsure of when to step outside the bathroom, but you knew that you couldn’t stay in here forever.
Oh screw it. You turn the knob and push the door open.
Stepping out of the bathroom, you were definitely not prepared to see what was in front of you. Lee Daeun was sitting atop of Jungkook – the two of them half dressed and passionately making out and with obvious intentions to go even further.
So this is what Daeun meant by ‘making her forget’.
             “What. The. Actual. Fuck.”
You don’t even try to conceal the amount of displeasure in your voice, immediately grabbing the attention of the two bodies on the bed. When Jungkook sees you in his vision– it was like he has woken up from a trance – his eyes widen as he cusses under his breath. Jungkook quickly pushes Daeun off of him and sit upright in attempt to gain whatever composure he had left.
“F-fuck. Y/N, I can explain.” He stutters, flustered and ashamed of whatever that was going on. Jungkook struggles to fix his pants as Daeun sits on the corner of his bed with her head down.
You were not proud of your bad temper, but at this moment it was really something that you couldn’t control.
“This really crosses the line, Jeon.” You hiss, no patience to listen to what he had to say. “I didn’t give a shit when you were just sleeping around, but ruining relationships? And atop of that, a relationship between your two close friends?” Stepping towards Jungkook, you refuse to break any eye contact before whispering your next words.
             “Now that’s low.”
Your statement has undoubtedly stab Jungkook right where it hurts the most. He lowers his head in shame, unable to face you. Instead, it’s another voice that speaks up– one that you were not very fond of.
“Stop criticising when you have no idea what is going on!” Daeun glares at you from the corner of his bed, eyes red and swollen from the crying. “Kookie has just been helping me with my problems with Jimin.”
Now you know that it must be your bias speaking, but you just didn’t have the tolerance to deal with Daeun and her little victim act. Not right now.
“No offence, Daeun.” Your laugh was humourless. “But I wasn’t talking to you.” You seethe. Before she can retaliate, Jungkook shoots a glare at her way to make her quiet down.
A few moments of silence sits dangerously in the atmosphere. You feel like your mentality was going haywire with all the emotions running inside of you. Anger? Disappointment? Or was it heartbreak?
Right before you decided that you did not want to be in this room anymore, Jungkook speaks up. He runs his fingers through his hair, looking visibly distressed.
“Daeun, do you think you can go home first?” He says softly, “I need to talk to Y/N.”
She nods timidly as she dresses herself and makes her way to the door. Right before she exits, Daeun gives the two of you another glance and leaves.
When you are positive that she has left, you find yourself releasing a breath that you didn’t know you were holding. Energy strained and tired, you turn your back and start walking towards Hoseok’s bed to sit down.
To be completely honest, you had no idea how to face this situation. You aren’t sure of how you were supposed to feel in this situation.
‘You are his friend, nothing more.’ These words loops in your head before you start talking again.
“Jungkook, I can’t help you get over this heartbreak if you keep walking right into it.” You whisper. “Can’t you see that all of this is really unhealthy?”
Jungkook finally looks up and makes eye contact with you. His eyes are lost– so fragile as if they will shatter if you were not careful. “She said that she will leave Jimin soon. And-” He smiles weakly at you. “I really believe that-”
And that pisses you off –  all your attempts to help Jungkook when he didn’t even want to be helped. It was frustrating to watch him put himself in this situation, he deserves so much better. You knew the next words would hurt him, but they were also necessary.
“If she had the intention of leaving Jimin, she would’ve done it before she start ‘this’ with you! She is using you for her own selfish reasons.” You don’t even realise how fervent your voice has gotten. “You are just her toy, Jungkook.”
The anger in his eyes almost frightens you, he has never looked at you with so much resentment. Jungkook’s fists are clenched as he starts walking in your direction, stopping when his face was right in front of yours.
“Why can’t you just be happy for me!” Jungkook has never raised his voice at you like this. “You know what?” He exasperates, “This is why I didn’t want to tell you. I knew you’d judge me like this.” A low growl sits in his throat. “Do you just want everyone to be miserable and pathetic like you?”
The moment that those words left from his lips, he could feel regret flowing through his veins.
“Fuck. I-I don’t mean it that wa-”
His hand reaches out to grab onto your wrists, but before he could – you had taken a step back and the look in your eyes make Jungkook feel disgusted at himself. He is struggling to put the words he actually meant to say together but when he searches for your eyes again, you had already left him alone in his room.
You slam the door shut behind you, skidding to a stop when you see the boys staring right at you. Jin tries to give you a hug but your hand gently brushes it away. No, you couldn’t break down right in front of them, not when Jungkook was just right behind. Without saying another word to them, you ignored their worried expressions and sprint down the stairs.
Jungkook was right, it was raining outside.

A, B!!!, J, L, N, P, Q, R, S, T, Z!!!!!!!!!!!!!! PLS TELL oof i love ur writing!!
OH MAN OH MAN OH MAN THANKS EMY!!!
aaaaa you love my writing? i’m so happy to hear that
A: Your current OTP.
HAMAHAYA. HAMAHAYA BIG TIME. And also lowkey Ishimondo but HamaHaya is my main one!!! I love them so much and I have so many headcanons and stories for them!!! That’s kinda why I want to put them on poly relationships? Like I want these relationships to be explored but I can’t take them away from each other
B: A pairing you initially didn’t consider but someone changed your mind.
I haven’t considered Yuuichi ² (and i refuse to call it any other way) but man did you change my mind. Did you.
Also there was this one time I just liked MasaHika as a BROTP but then @producktions and my brother came and… I surrendered :’D
J: Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr.
Oh, Voltron definitely! I saw all this fanart, and fics and stuff and all I knew it was filed under ‘gays in space’, but then @justanothermatsugirl and @srta-double invited me to watch and… Porntron came to be. And Porntron is the best thing. Ever.
L: Your favorite fanartist/author gives you one request, what do you ask for?
It depends? I usually try to make both of us happy when it comes to requests, for example, if that person likes, say, HamaHaya but I feel like I want HamaKura I will ask them for HamaHaya anyways because 1. HAMAHAYA and 2. Maybe they will put more feel into the art!!! And what is most important of art is the feelings that it is put into it! Best art is the art you can tell the author put all their heart on~!
but if i could choose anything, give me the hamahayakuraminamana, you cowards
N: Your favorite fandom (for the people; not the thing you fangirl over).
Um… Is it normal I want to say the MOTHER fandom on 2014? Especifically on DA. It was like a tiny family… Everyone knew each other. Everyone was nice with each other. It was so nice. But now everyone parted ways and I have no idea where everyone is. Most left DA (and so did I) and I can’t help but wonder where they are. But my current fandom is really nice too… It’s like a family, too… Sometimes.
P: Invent a random AU for any fandom (we always need more ideas).
Lately I’ve been thinking about a Go Ares AU a lot and hamano goes to tengawara for obvious reasons but that’s kinda boring so I gotta think about something more interesting >:3c
Kind of a joke AU, but still:
Have you guys ever heard about ~LA FERIA~? It’s like this weird Spanish thing we have. Everyone dances and sings these lame guitar songs which are mostly like aAAAAaAAAaaaYYYYYYYY @loreprotectionsquad can confirm BUT! that’s not the interesting thing! The interesting thing about Feria is that we basically get a mini amusement park on our town, just because!
So my brother and I thought about some Go kids there and it just…
Hamano gets Kurama a giant Snake plush and he tries to ride on a… Ride with it and it almost slips out but he clings to it and manages to save it. Hamano thinks it’s adorable. Kurama swears he’ll kill him if he tells someone. Hamano promised Hayami he’d get a plushie for him too, but he is unable (because you can only win one plush per day) so Hayami gets a dolphin plush for him. Imagine Hayami walking around with two overly joyful boyfriends clinging to their giant plushies. Goals.
Kirino and Shindou ride on the ferris wheel which they don’t set up anymore, but still. and Ibuki tries to climb it but fails (?
Shinsuke rides on some dinosaur themed train, and there’s clowns with balloons and stuff you can snatch from them. He gets a plastic axe. Which are super hard to get i need to tell you the story of how i got one when i was like 8. it was so stupid it’s funny He somehow convinces Tsurugi to ride too, while Tenma and Aoi look at them. They have become the ultime balloon snatchers. No one can stop them. Aoi and Tenma are so proud.
Taiyou comes, sees Tenma and waves at him, approaching him. Then all of the sudden, Fuyuka comes rushing after him, and tells Tenma that ‘Taiyou should be in right now, sorry for the inconvenience’ and picks him by the stomach (you know… like a kitten, with her arm around his torso? you get me, right?) while Taiyou tries to escape, but fails.
Kariya and Hikaru try to hide from Hiroto and Midorikawa, who have come with them, but Kariya wants some time alone, while they want to take pics of everything they do, basically.
Something about Yukimura and Fubuki was mentioned, along with Kishibe and Aphrodi, but I don’t remember ;v; Also, Amagi going with Mahoro and Yukie, and all of the third years (Minamisawa as well, for some reason) going together too.
My brother kinda dislikes Galaxy (except Tetsukado, Kusaka and Konoha) so I’ll do their stuff myself.
Minaho and Manabe compete to see who will get more plushies. They only get one keychain working together. They give it to the first team member that they see because they don’t know who should keep it.
But that was after the previously mentioned day, so the Second Year Trio got them plushies instead (they got the hang of one game and they WILL make the most of it. And, they have to help a boyfriend out, right?
So they spend the rest of the festivity together. And they have fun and stuff.
There’s one ride with horses. Konoha spends 98/100 there. Otherwise, she wouldn’t come. It’s so noisy, and crowded…
Kusaka comes and goes to check on her. He can’t ride on most… Rides (this is redundant) anyways. He’s too tall.
Tetsukado and Hamano competed to see who was better at Duck-Fishing. Let’s just say that Shinsuke and Hamano’s boyfriends came home with lots of plushes and prices…
Sakura aced all the games. How did she manage, no one knows (she was, in fact, the first one Minaho and Manabe offered the keychain to. But she rejected it and got two super sparkly keychains for them instead. Minaho and Manabe offered it anyways in exchange but she said that it was nothing and that they should keep the one they got.
Matatagi showed his brothers the place and rode on some rides (seriously how is this so redundant). Eventually they joined the Plushie Fest. Matatagi’s brothers cheered. He, not so much, not when he had to carry around giant plushies for the rest of the day, as his brothers were too busy exploring around.
I think that’s all??? Am I forgetting someone? except zanakurou but i don’t know what to do with him. he dances sevillanas. i don’t know. sorry darling
Oh, yeah, and there’s also this AU my brother and I made in which Kurama is a time traveler and quite literally Hamano and Hayami’s son (he has a big sister named Estrella but that’s for another time) and he has come because their parents were too slow too realize they had feelings for each other and he fears for his existence and his sister’s (???
Q: A ship you’ve abandoned and why.
Can you believe I used to ship Min/////a/kura? But, to be honest, I didn’t know what that was. I just found some comic of them and I thought it was cute. Then I got more into InaEle, and well…
I’m saying that one because I can’t think of anything else XD
R: A pairing you ship that you don’t think anyone else ships.
The Kurama multiship fest, which I will proceed to explain, even though the first one is sorta popular, but still:
Hamano and Hayami, because I saw HamaKura and I thought it was really cute! (when i got used to kurama, at first i didn’t like him but i found hamahayakura and i went ‘eeeeeeeehhh’ but you already know that story) then I thought of HamaHaya + HamaKura and Hayami just got into the package for some reason XD
Hikaru, because I was salty I didn’t ship him with Minamisawa and I wanted to ship him with someone but I didn’t know who, then he had a little scene with Hikaru on the games (when they go look for Shinsuke or something) and a lightbulb light up on my head
Tenma because, honestly, how can you have someone you ship with everyone but not Tenma? Plus it’s cute.
Tsurugi because I saw somebody posting drawings of them and I went ‘hey they cute’ and that’s all. also the fandom team might or might not had something to do with it
Kariya because they had this scene when they went to China on CS that i don’t even remember but what i do remember is my brother asking me why i wasn’t saying anything about the ship, and i went ‘well, i don’t, BUUUUUUUUUT’ and so it started.
Minaho because, and listen well because this one is weird, I was in class, and I was bored, and I decided to make quadrants for some InaEle characters, I started by Minaho and went ‘huh so, Moirail, Manabe, Matesprit, Manabe, Kismesis, Manab-wait’ so I decided to crack it up a bit and now it was ‘Moirail, Hamano, Matesprit, Manabe’ but I wanted to give him a Kismesis (that could’ve been perfectly Matatagi, but I didn’t think of that because I’m dumb) (also read: a love rivalry more or less) so I gave him Kurama. THEN I played BigBang and they had a small interaction and since back then I couldn’t even read Hiragana I don’t know what they said but Kurama made a sad face afterwards so I take it as I was right
Fei because Kurama learns Bouncer Rabbit on Galaxy (actually the two-people version. He does it with Hamano because I’m obvious) and also Fei stole his number, now Kurama has to steal something back (???
Taiyou because on my CS game Kurama, Taiyou and Hikaru always do hissatsus together on the random thing (that makes also Sakura and Matatagi do Butterfly Dream together all the time for some reason. Which is funny because I lowkey shipped it before starting Galaxy) so I got used to seeing them together.
Ibuki because my brother always calls them losers (he’s a bit mean sometimes, but I love him ;v;) so I started relating them n stuff.
Hakuryuu because my brother and I have this thing called the ‘Spammer Club’ which is for characters that say other character’s name a lot. We have Hakuryuu (who we jokingly call churugispammer) Miyasaka, Ibuki, Hakuryuu and Kurama got in too for some reason. So yeah. It happened. N stuff.
Also I brotp him with Kinako, but I brotp Kinako with everyone.
S: What’s a headcanon you have?
Hmm… I headcanon that out of the Second Year Trio, only Hamano has siblings (2 sisters, him being the middle sib- and no that’s not me self projecting ok)
Hayami has mentioned more than once on the games that he wants to be a scientist, and I headcanon that it’s because his mother is! Which also means she’s super busy most of the time. So Hayami is quite dependent, but he can’t cook for his life. Hamano is surprisingly okay at cooking, and he’s learning to bake.
Also, Hayami really likes penguins for some reason.
T: What are your favorite male/male ships or female/female ships?
Ack, that’s a hard one ;v;
- Male/Male - (to keep things fresh from 3 diff fandoms each)
Hamano/Hayami (Inazuma Eleven)
Ishimaru/Oowada (Danganronpa)
Killua/Gon (HxH)
Shu/Valt (Beyblade Burst)
Hau/Gladion (Pokémon)
- Female/Female -
Diana/Akko (Little Witch Academia) (i gotta continue it sob aaa)
Ootani/Anna (Inazuma Eleven)
Moon/Lillie (Pokémon)
Z: What’s a ship that you want to ship publicly, but everyone on tumblr hates it so you keep your mouth shut about it?
Ahahah, what are you talking about [hides my polyship mess under a rug] it is not much that they hate it, just that no one is interested XD

“Peppermint Winter”
Fandom: Mystic Messenger Pairing: Ray/MC (MC’s name is Chris) Date Written: 12/25/17 Summary: Ray invites you to the gardens for a picnic. He’s always doing something for you, but little does he know that you have something just for him this time.  Thoughts: I’M NOT LATE I SWEAR!!!! Mari Chris-mas, Big Sis @d-a-z-a-i, hope cute boys were hanging around your Christmas tree and cheers to a new (and hopefully better) year!
You know, when Ray told you that he wanted to have a picnic in the garden with you to celebrate your fourth day at… at this place, you were expecting just a simple walk, maybe some tea and cookies together. Not, uh…not this. You stared at the large feast laid out before you, eying it a little cautiously as you took a sip from the steaming cup of white tea held tightly between your hands. Your eyes trailed over the beautiful spread while taking in the subtle notes of citrus mingling with the peach of the tea; there was so much sweets and foods spread out across the table, some of which you didn’t know the names of. They all looked so delicious, and yet so painstakingly put together, that you were afraid to ask just how long it took just to prepare them.
Your gaze flickered back and forth between the table and your companion, who was humming to himself as he took another slice from the lemon poppy seed cake. He looked up for a split second at you, and you swore that his eyes lit up a little brighter, that serene smile of his widening just a fraction more. Silence passed for a few more moments before Ray finally spoke up, “It really is such a wonderful time for tea, don’t you agree?” He set his cup down onto the saucer before looking up at you, hands folded neatly atop the table. “I’ll say,” you said, looking out at the stars that twinkled across the dark blanket of the night, “The stars are shining so brightly tonight! You can really see them clearly here; it’s so breath-taking!” “Not as breath-taking as you though, Chris,” He said casually, eyes still trained on your figure. You immediately turned to look back at him, cheeks flushing at the compliment and mouth slightly agape as you struggled to think of words. He only laughed, a wonderfully brilliant sound, as he gave you another grin, “You look so cute when you blush, too!” Which only earned him another one of your cute blushes in turn. “Ha…haha…ha, you’re, uh, you’re too kind…” You laughed, avoiding his gaze, still clearly embarrassed. Your eyes darted around quickly, looking for something, anything to change the subject before he spouted another compliment. You just decided to ask him the one question that plagued you ever since you got here and hoped for the best. “Hey, Ray?” You said, looking up at him. “Yes, my dear Chris?” God, that cute pet name… “Why…” You felt your cheeks flush again, but ignored it for the time being, “Why do you do all of this—” you gestured towards the table— “for me?” The question certainly caught him off-guard, but he regained his composure quickly and gave you that ever patient smile that he always had. “I only wish for you to be happy, Chris, that’s all there is to it. Seeing you happy is worth any effort.” Your gaze faltered as you turned your attention to fiddling with a lock of your hair, looking down at the fabulous array of food and trying not to focus on just how red your cheeks most likely were. You stared intently at the chocolate cake nearest to you, thinking about just how much time must have gone into making it. It must have been a while, right? You smiled wistfully, reaching for your tea cup, “…You really are amazing to be able to do all of this for me, Ray,” you muttered, bringing it close to your lips to take another sip, “I really mean that.” You took a sip, then looked up after a few seconds of silence. You weren’t sure what you were expecting but it certainly wasn’t the faint blush that slowly started blooming across his face. He looked so innocent, so adorable. …Wait, what? The two of you continued to look at each other until a childish wonder shone in his eyes, a hopeful excitement making its way onto his features. “Really!?” His tone didn’t betray anything either. A sweet laugh left his lips as he shook his head, “And you really are too kind and amazing to say such things, Chris. I’m supposed to be the one spoiling you, not the other way around.” He chuckled, and you swore you heard a hint of melancholy laced in his voice, “After all, I really haven’t done anything to deserve such sweet words from your lips…” You frowned slightly at that last statement. He didn’t truly believe that, did he? Your eyes dropped back down to the banquet before you, brows furrowing as you contemplated his words. No matter what he told you, you knew that he did so much to ensure your happiness, despite his busy schedule. From the moment that you woke up to the moment that you fell asleep, he always tried to check up on you at least three times a day, making sure you had your meals, asking how your day was going, or telling you of all the things he wanted to do with you. Sure, he always had something to say about those two AIs, 707 and V, but he always genuinely seemed to love chatting with you. You weren’t quite sure why, but the fact that he wanted nothing but to make you happy…that…that made your heart flutter ever so slightly, the more you thought about it. He did so much for you, not expecting anything in return. You just wanted to return his kindness at least once. Your eyes returned back to him as you thought about something else that sat at the back of your mind. Should you go get it now? Or just wait for another time? … Screw it. You got up from your seat, earning yourself a questioning, almost panicked look from Ray as he watched you leave your seat and turn towards the steps of the gazebo. “Chris? Is there something wrong?” “Ah, it’s nothing,” You lied, chuckling sheepishly as you rubbed your arm absent-mindedly. “I just have to go get something; I think I left it somewhere around in the garden.” His eyes narrowed in concern, beginning to rise from his seat, “Well, if you lost something, I can find it for you; it’s cold, after all, and I don’t want you wandering around where you could get sick—” “NO!” His eyes widen at your sudden outburst, staring at you with even more confusion and concern than before. A silence fell over the two of you; after a few seconds, you laughed nervously and darted your eyes to look at anything but him, “N-no, it’s fine; I’m sure it’s around here somewhere, ahahaha….” He said nothing as you turned to walk down the steps, watching you intently as you began to turn right, through the hedge walls. “Oh, and, uh, close your eyes, Ray!” You poked your head back around the corner, looking him in the eyes and waiting. He obeyed your request, eyes sliding shut, chuckling slightly when he heard you huff a “and make sure they stay closed!” You were so cute sometimes. …Wait, what? He listened as your footsteps faded into the distance, followed by a moment of silence that followed as he waited patiently for you to return. At first, it wasn’t too bad; he trusted that you would be quick about it. But as seconds turned into minutes, the anxiety of waiting started to catch up with him. He started thinking of different scenarios—Did the RFA members somehow capture you? Did you not enjoy his company, but were just too polite to say otherwise? He knew it, he shouldn’t have overstepped his boundaries, he shouldn’t have let you out of his sight, he messed up, and now you were either gone or you hated him! He was about to open his eyes and go find you himself when he heard the faint echoes of your voice coming closer towards him, “God, I’m so sorry!” You sounded almost out of breath, as if you’d been running around. “I almost forgot where I put it and I needed to add just a fe-e-ew~ small details!” He re-shut his eyes as he heard your rushed steps echo throughout the silent garden and against the wood of the gazebo steps until he could almost feel your presence near him. “And…Tada!” Your voice was so close. “Go ahead and open your eyes!” He opened his eyes slowly, only to be greeted with the sight of a rather large bouquet held tightly between two slightly trembling hands. He stared intently, mouth agape, at the flowers, the colors swirling together in a flurry of reds, purples, and whites, a few greens thrown into the mix. He recognized a few of the flowers—Snowdrops, Stargazers, Lily of the Valley… “I…I wanted to give you a bouquet like the one you gave to me when I first came here.” Your voice interrupted his thoughts, turning his attention back towards you. “After all, Ray, you’ve been so kind and caring towards me, making sure all of my needs are tended to…I know that you’re extremely busy, but you always somehow manage to make time to spend with me.” He couldn’t tell if it was just his imagination, but he could just faintly see the smallest trace of red painting your cheeks as you smiled shyly at him. “I just…I just want to show you that I appreciate everything that you do for me. “I remember you told me once that you were trying to learn flower language. I might not be the best—in fact, this is my first time making a bouquet, ahaha—but I researched various flower types and their meanings and tried to build a bouquet that I felt best represented you and how I feel. Thankfully there were many flowers growing here in the gardens, but, ah, it was kind of hard to make this behind your back. Here—” You shifted the bouquet carefully into the crook of your arm and, with your newly freed hand, gestured to the various flowers that decorated the bunch. “There’s Snowdrops, Lily of the Valley, Baby’s Breath, Alyssum, Stargazers, a flower called Ran…uh, Ranunculus?” You scrunched your nose slightly—god, so adorable—as you tried to recall, face lighting up as you seemed to remember, “Yeah, that’s the name; and then there’s some sage and sprigs of mint mixed in—ahaha, get it? Sprigs of mint? Mint Eye?” As you continued to giggle at your little joke, he just continued to stare at the outstretched bouquet in your hands, all words stuck on his tongue. It was clear that this was your first time doing this, as you said—the bouquet looked a little hastily made; some of the flowers were cut unevenly, it was a little too packed with variety—but at the same time…this had been the first time that someone had done something like this for him. He had been content with giving you the world at whatever cost and receiving nothing in return. You were his precious tester, the one person who had wholeheartedly trusted him based on his words alone. Your words, your little actions through the day, the chats you shared in the messenger—he treasured all of those precious memories, memories that he made with you. It was that gift alone that you gave to him every day, the mere gift of your presence, that made him want to work harder than ever, just to glimpse a time in his busy schedule dedicated to just you and him. Why he was willing to dedicate his entire existence to you, even, if you so asked. He knew that somewhere along the way, his feelings for you had grew into something more, but he was content as long as you just stayed by his side in this paradise. So to have a gift presented to him by his dear angel? He never allowed himself to dare dream of such a possibility. And yet, here you both were, you clutching the very thing that he so desperately wished for tightly in your hands, such a warm smile gently framing your soft features… “Ray!?” Your panicked voice snapped him out of his reverie just enough for him to see your face change from a serene smile to concerned shock. You set the bouquet down on the table and quickly rushed up to him, “Oh god, are you okay? I didn’t do anything to hurt or offend you, did I???” You reached out to caress his face, brushing away what seemed like tears. Since when did he start crying…? You were about to pull away to grab a napkin when he gently held your hand in place. You stayed still, albeit turning to face him. You watched as he took your hand in both of his, bringing them to his chest, where you felt the faint but rapid beating of his heart. “My dear Christa,” he began, “You don’t realize how happy you make me.” You looked up at him, his eyes never leaving yours and his gaze never wavering. That soft smile was again shining, but where there were traces of loneliness and melancholy, there was sincerity…and more importantly, a glimmer of hope. “I want to cherish this moment, this memory, with you for the rest of my life. I want to continue to only make happy memories with you…!” He clutched your hand tighter to his chest. “Even if this is a dream, I never want to wake up…” You didn’t notice that you were leaning towards him, him doing the same, until your lips brushed against each other slightly. You pulled away slightly, eyes half-lidded and a little dazed, him the same, before the both of you leaned in again for a longer, sweeter kiss, you clinging to his neck as he cradled your head with one hand and rested the other against your waist. As you two pulled away again, he moved a hand to brush away your bangs and pressed a soft kiss against your forehead before resting his own against yours. “I’m probably being selfish just by saying this, my dear Christa,” he whispered against your hair, “But…you truly are my angel, the light of my life. I really do hope that this paradise with just the two of us never ends.”
Notes:
Alyssum: Worth Beyond Beauty  Baby’s Breath: Innocence, Pure of Heart, Everlasting Love Lily of the Valley: Return of Happiness  Mint: Virtue Ranunculus: You are radiant with charms / I am dazzled by your charms Sage: Esteem, Domestic Virtue Snowdrop: Hope, Consolation/Sympathy, Rebirth, Purity Stargazer Lily: (Spiritual) Purity, Optimism, Heaven on Earth, Opportunity, Prosperity
So this is pretty much my version of MC telling Ray that she thinks he’s worth the world and wants to help him start over/build a new life filled with happiness.

I HAVE A THOUGHT
Okay I’m like, exhausted. Haven’t really slept in like, four days. I’m at the point where I just KNOW I’m tired but I just don’t FEEL tired and I’ve been thinkin. Hear me out, it’s probably impossible. I blame my tired brain.
Luffy's Gear Second speeds up his blood, which in turn speeds up his body, he's tecchnically moving at speeds faster than much of the world around him with no mental jetlag, and only few physical repercussions (it strainss his heart, I don't care if he's made of rubber, that shit is dangerous!!). But like, hear me out, I might just be really tired and coming up with stupid shit, but like, if Luffy Awakens his Devil Fruit, if at all possible for him, what if it's just like activating Gear Two.
But instead of just gaining a speed boost, ot allows him to go so fast he travels through time??? Or gains an ability akin to the Instant Transmission technique from Dragon Ball Z???
Really, logic does NOT apply to Luffy, at all. He has gone into situations that have the odds SO stacked against him it’s not funny, but usually comes out on top! He’s a favorite of Lady Luck, has almost died like… 15 times, was fucking TORTURED as a child by a nasty, rotten pirate who didn’t care what he did because obviouSLY THE END JUSTIFIES THE MEANS, was RESCUED from CERTAIN DEATH by his CHILL FOSTER DAD™(Shanks), has managed to turn ENEMIES into ALLIES, not once but like DOZENS of times, rose to infamy in like… threeeeeeish months, survived his abusive freak of a grandfather (I love Garp, I really do, but that is NOT how you show love, and that is NOT how you treat a child. HE NEARLY KILLED LUFFY OVER A DOZEN TIMES USING THE EXCUSE OF “Training him to be an upstanding marine”! If anything, I think that Garp made Luffy begin to doubt becoming a marine, thought about it with a simple “I’ll have to listen to commands, and it’s a robbery of freedom”, but wasn’t about to abandon the option, because he still loved his grandpa and wanted to make him proud. Shanks and his stories of his grand adventures as a pirate merely allowed Luffy to harbor and grow that doubt into a hard-as-diamond belief.), stopped the civil war in Alabasta because WOW VIVI IS DISTRESSED LET’S NOT, broke into Impel Down, got terribly poisoned, was given the option to be cured but the cure was ALMOST just as deadly as the poison itself, went through TERRIBLE pain, and came out VICTORIOUS, albeit in technical terms ten years older (not physically, he lost ten years doing that. In my standards, he aged up ten years in bodily health. It won’t catch up with him til later in his life though, I bet), and survived getting the flesh on his chest, his RUBBER FLESH (ugh, that must have been horrible to see, and smell), melted off because he had been lucky enough to have caught the interest of supernova-at-the-time, Trafalgar Law.
With all of that in our minds, I wouldn’t doubt that Lady Luck would grant his Awakened Devil Fruit the ability to travel through time, or basically teleport.
Because come on.
He’d literally be stretching time and space.
’~’
I admit, he’d, at first, almost do something stupid. With time travel, he’d go back and try to prevent so much bad shit that’d happened to him without thinking of the consequences, as always, and he would end up DRASTICALLY changing things.
For example: he would go back to prevent, let’s say, the events of Marineford. Whitebeard would still be alive, Ace would still be alive, so much DEATH would have been avoided, and Teach would target Luffy and his crew in an attempt to become shichibukai. The vile man had seen Luffy’s wanted poster and decided to target him, and then full out admitted this to Ace at Banaro, and Ace definitely was NOT going to have that! I memorized their conversation as evidence because people like to sass me with a classic “YOU HAVE NO PROOF!”:
“First, I’ll go to Water Seven from here to kill Strawhat Luffy and hand him over to the government!”
“Luffy…!? What did you say…!? ”
“Oh? You know him?”
“I won’t let you lay a finger on him. He’s my little brother! ”
’~’
Luffy preventing Ace from being taken to Impel Down in the first place, which means preventing Ace from continuing to hunt Teach by, maybe, telling Ace about the Yami Yami no Mi and it’s abilities, and, if he manages it because coME ON, he can’t to save his life, lie about how he knows this, which would either drive Ace back towards Whitebeard in an attempt to prepare for such a battle, maybe even train more, or wouldn’t prevent Ace’s action against Teach, but would cause him to take the fight MUCH more seriously from the get go with the newfound knowledge. Going with the latter route, Ace taking the fight seriously from the start, if Ace seems too powerful to Teach, he’d do everything in his ability to flee the battle, as the man has always been a coward, and was never a carrier of The Will of D, despite being Marshall D. Teach. I don’t doubt that Teach would somehow escape Ace’s fury and flee Banaro, deciding against his thought of turning in Ace instead of Strawhat. He would hide out with his crew, or what may be left, for a lil less than a month. Lay low. No destruction, no killing, nothing from the Blackbeard Pirates. They would fall off the grid. Ace, having lost the man’s trail, would either continue roaming for any leads, or retreat back towards Whitebeard with his newfound knowledge of the man’s abilities, because he has SOMETHING on the man now, and his crew should know.
Teach would then head towards Sabaody and Fishman Island to have a run in with the Strawhats. They wouldn’t win that battle, and Luffy, plus his crewmates if they knew, would then be given to the government, and, knowing Luffy’s heritage, they’d rush to execute him almost as fast as they had with Ace. The papers would be full of excitement over it.
“SON OF REVOLUTIONARY DRAGON TO BE EXECUTED IN A MONTH!” the paper would scream, alerting everyone Luffy had managed to save or befriend, in one way or another. Shanks, Dorry, Brogy, Whitebeard (if Ace found out and lost his shit. He would try to leave, to rescue his baby brother, who doesn’t deserve to be executed. He would be held back, kicking, screaming, and crying out that Luffy was his first light in the dark, that he needs to save his little, adorable brother, that he’d always hate himself more than he has if he lets Luffy die. I feel that it would hurt Whitebeard and the others on the ship to see someone who was usually smiling and cracking jokes and being a nasty little brat on some days, and just an all around JOY to be around, be so… lost, and broken, and just a WRECK. They’d go and help save Luffy, I think. Whitebeard knows the importance of family, knows that Luffy means the WORLD to Ace, who was so, so PROUD when Luffy’s first bounty came out, and any brother of Ace was a son of his, and no one would be executing one of his sons when he could do anything about it.), two Yonkos and two giants.
The marines had been dreading in the original timeline that Shanks would join in the fighting when he arrived 15 minutes late to the war with a latte, imagine their horror as Whitebeard and Shanks join forces to save a simple, small boy made of rubber, who's grin and energy touched the hearts of practically millions on both the East Blue and the Grand Line.
But, the whole thing would be a plot by the marines to draw out Dragon, to catch him trying to rescue his son. But, the Revolutionaries, they are one big WILD CARD! I haven’t gotten enough about Dragon himself to even begin to THINK that be would mobilize forces to save Luffy. But, he did rescue Luffy at Loguetown, remember that. I bet he would be so so PROUD of Luffy, who was causing the World Government so much CHAOS, doing just what he had been doing, but instead of planning, like Dragon, he just went and did it. And if anything, the sudden headline would spark SOMETHING in the amnesiac that is Sabo, a deep-seated terror that he doesn’t know the origins of, or maybe it would knock him into a wave of soul crushing horror as memories of a small, bright little boy came crashing into him like a tsunami, he would drop the paper in horror, he never knew that Dragon was Luffy’s FUCKING FATHER, he would rush to Dragon about it, and if the man would do nothing, Sabo would become enraged. What a horrible father, what a SNAKE! He would beg, plead, do anything to get this man to save his FUCKING SON! And if Dragon was going to act, he would assign Sabo and a select group to infiltrate Impel Down to save Luffy, only to have barely missed him, yet they would be able to break out Luffy’s crew, if they had been captured when trying to help Luffy. Anyone can elaborate on what happens after this, I’m moving on.
If Ace had retreated to Whitebeard instead of going to Banaro to confront Teach, the man would have, more than likely, destroyed Banaro and would make his way to Water Seven. I estimate that he’d make it there after the events of Enies Lobby, unaware of the dramatic uppage in bounty that would follow. Aqua Lagoona had just passed, he’d just miss the Strawhats leaving the large city, but he would see the newly built Thousand Sunny flying as quick as a bee out towards the ocean, and he would follow. They’d go through some bastardized game of cat and mouse, I doubt Teach would even TRY confronting the Strawhats so close to Thriller Bark. So he’d wait until the fog lifted, like an idiot, because he probably doesn’t know the fog won’t lift. But, and correct me if I’m wrong, the fog DOES lift after Moria is defeated. He follows Luffy to Sabaody, where he confronts the Strawhat crew, and from here I believe the events mentioned in the last path would come to pass.
’~’
That was an example of what his meddling with time could lead to. Robin, of course, would stop him from doing it. She understands the risks of time travel, she’s read many books after all. Not only would she warn him to never use his power unless it was his ONLY CHOICE, she’d have him PROMISE!! And Luffy never breaks a promise, at least, not to my knowledge. It would be a great way to reset if he loses too much. And that means if he loses his crew, and he doesn’t feel he can go on without them.
Honestly, I find Luffy’s Gears facinating. Gear Two is advanced speed, Gear Three is damage spread across a large distance, and Gear Four is a mix of both. Truly interesting, the things Luffy has come up with for attacks and abilities when it comes to his own body. Which is why I’m instantly appealed by a Luffy moving so fast that he stretches time and space to the point of time travel, or teleportation.
And honestly, I kinda wanna see what other people have to think about my lil (understatement) rant here.
This has been your friendly neighborhood crow, signing out so I can attempt to sleep.

Chiccolo Week Day 3: Species Swap Day! XBallZ Evolution
A/N: Sorry it’s a smidge late (especially since I’m a mod!) but here’s Species Swap – Inspired by XMen Evolution! To be possibly continued :)
“Uncle, our mutations work in direct opposition to each other.” Piccolo rested heavily on his right palm, drawing circles in on the table with his left index finger. “Chichi’s supersonic super scream thing she does just doesn’t work with my hearing.” He glanced at Chichi, who was looking rather grim faced, staring at her gloved hands. A shadow fell across him, and Piccolo’s eyes darted up to the source. “Sure, the superhuman strength she’s got is useful as can be, but…”
“That, my boy, is why Bulma made you that helmet.” His uncle arched a brow, staring down at him. Piccolo’s frown deepened, and the teen intensified his imaginary doodling on the table.
“I don’t want to wear it, it’s stupid. My codename is ‘The Demon,’ and with that ridiculous get up on no one can see why.”
He could feel his uncle’s eyes on him.
“I do wish you would consider changing it, child. You’re on our team now, not your father’s. Such a moniker is not fitting of the Z Fighters.” Piccolo swiped his hand under his nose, refusing to meet his uncle’s gaze. “Chichi, my dear, what do you think about the teaming on this assignment?”
“I don’t love it,” Chichi muttered, and Piccolo’s long ears flicked. He tried to determine her tone. “Piccolo’s right, our powers aren’t exactly great together. Not to mention, we’re both new to the team. It would be better to have either of us paired with a more experienced member.” A pause, then, “with all due respect, Kami, sir.”
“Well, we all need to be able to work together, don’t we?”
Neither teen had an answer to that. The old mutant smiled.
“Why do you keep your Brotherhood name?” Piloting the mini-jet was her job, and her surly partner was sitting in the copilot seat, watching radar and other charts. She supposed that it was probably a little too personal of a question, considering that Piccolo didn’t really share anything with anyone.
“I’m not creative enough to come up with a new one,” he grumbled, “Demon is easy. I like it. It matches my good looks.” He flashed a toothy grin at her, and she saw his fangs. She could certainly see where he had gotten the name, with his green skin, elfish ears, antennae… Chichi bit her lip and looked away. She still hadn’t found a codename that fit her. The others said that if your powers didn’t determine it, the first mission almost always did.
“Why haven’t you come up with one yet?”
“What am I supposed to do, call myself Banshee? I’d rather not.” Chichi smiled at him, and he offered an awkward grin back. A little alarm sounded on the dash, signalling it was time to land and begin the reconnaissance mission…
Piccolo shook his head under his helmet. At least Bulma had made it purple. He’d yet to test it against Chichi’s supersonic wave scream; he was not exactly looking forward to it either. It wasn’t just the hearing. She could break bones with that thing. Supposedly, the motorcycle-looking helmet was specially designed to filter the wavelength from Chichi’s scream, and wouldn’t impact his superior hearing. Piccolo didn’t buy it, feeling muffled and exceptionally hard-of-hearing whilst wearing it.
“Hear anything?” Chichi asked, shuffling closer to him from their cover just outside the window Senator Satan’s office. He shushed her and tugged off the helmet, straining his ears.
“Why don’t you pull out those creepy goggles Bulma made to help with this sort of thing? You know, those x-ray ones.”
“Oh, right,” Piccolo suppressed an eye roll as Chichi fumbled around in her pack, pulling out the spy-goggles. However, he couldn’t hold back a second one when he saw the brightly colored Z emblazoned across them. Seriously? Bulma had tried to put one on his new helmet but he’d threatened mutiny if she followed through.
“You have to be a part of this team eventually!”
“I’d rather choke than wear something with the Old Man’s stupid team logo on it!”
Bulma screamed and threw the purple helmet at him, allowing him to remove the large Z stencil she had placed on it.
Even Chichi’s training suit had a big Z on the chest. It was ridiculous. “You’re not a fan, of the Z, right?”
“Not really my thing” Silence fell, and the two returned to listening and watching Senator Satan and his co-workers - or goons, Piccolo thought - go on and on about the Mutant Crisis. It was a warm day, and he was tired. There was nothing interesting to hear or see, and he felt himself drifting dangerously close to dozing off… At least when he was flying under his father’s colors, he’d never had to do something as boring as reconnaissance work. Of course… there were perfectly good reasons as to why he had left his father’s team. Many perfectly good reasons.
Chichi, too, was feeling the effects of the warm weather, but not as much as Piccolo. She frowned, watching as he nodded off and on. How unprofessional! Reaching out her foot, she nudged her green companion in the shin. He jumped, and glared her before adjusting his position. His eyes closed once more.
“Just let me meditate.”
“You’re not meditating, you’re napping. We have a job to do!”
“Shut up. All they’re doing is talking about their ridiculous registration act. Nothing new.”
She stuck her tongue out at him, knowing he wouldn’t see it. Or at least, she thought he wouldn’t see it. He raised a lip in a silent snarl. She suddenly remembered that he was a telepath. And a telekinetic. It all made her feel woefully inadequate. Professor Kami seemed to believe that her powers were still developing, in their infancy, he’d said, gently touching her forehead. Chichi pursed her lips, staring through Piccolo rather than at him. Unlike Piccolo, and several of the kids on the team, Chichi had no physical manifestation of her mutations. She had been normal until the one day when she had become so angry, so afraid, she had snapped and screamed until she ran out of breath…and had looked around to see shattered glass and destruction. Two days later, she had left home to live at the Lookout.
“Hey! You kids!” Chichi was jolted out of her reverie, and didn’t look to see if Piccolo had woken up. What did M.R.D. stand for? Six heavily suited agents stood before them, holding up clear shields with the acronym emblazoned across them.
“Pi - I, I mean -”
She chanced a glance at him, and for the first time since she’d known him, she saw real fear in his eyes. His hands shot out, and her attention was grabbed by the sounds of bodies smacking together. “Pi - Demon!” Codenames during missions. Codenames during missions. “You can’t hur -” She yelped, sending out a wave of energy on accident as she narrowly avoided being shot by the agents. She covered her face as she hit the dirt, more beams flying overhead. She screamed again as rubble hit her in the face, peppering her arms and back. And then… it was silent. Chichi opened her eyes, and wished she hadn’t when she saw Piccolo’s face; it was contorted in an ugly, feral snarl, his helmet failing to cover his jaw and lips. She thought she had seen why he was called The Demon. Now she did.
“Die,” he snarled, raising his hands, lifting the agents. Chichi’s eyes widened.
“No! You can’t!”
She saw his eyes flick to her face behind the eye shield before his icy eyes returned to the security agents with the strange shields.
“They’re gonna kill us if we don’t do something. I don’t know about you, but I’d rather not kick it today.” He moved to throw them, crush them, or something but Chichi scrambled to her feet and clutched at his shoulder pads. “Get off.”
“No! I’m not gonna let you kill them! - Oof!” Piccolo shoved her to the ground. “Demon!” He wasn’t listening, he was going to - Wait, she had superhuman strength. She could knock him out if she wanted to! And she was not about to let him kill a bunch of people. It went against everything Kami taught them.
People were yelling, she was pretty sure a helicopter was on its way. This couldn’t be what the public saw about mutants. It couldn’t! Her fist connected with Piccolo’s jaw with an audible crack, making his helmet turn sideways as he stumbled. His would-be victims landed in a pile, dazed but alive as she hauled him up by the feet, her face twisted in a snarl.
“We. Do not. Kill.” Piccolo stared up at her through the crooked helmet, an odd expression on his face. It abruptly shifted as he wrapped his arms around her, and she felt them both lift off the ground as backup security arrived on the scene.
Piccolo offered to pilot on their way back to the Lookout. She let him, taking the copilot seat in silence, programming in their destination. Chichi glowered at the screen, still fuming that he had seriously been about to kill those people. How irresponsible! Didn’t he know that they represented the entire race of mutants? A single publicized act of violence could put their cause at risk! At least she’d given him a nasty bruise on the face to remind him of the message.
Maybe he heard her thoughts. Or maybe he was just feeling guilty.
“What you did back there. That was pretty gutsy.”
“Yeah.”
He stared straight ahead, blue bruise blooming on his green face.
“Thanks, Tiger. Or Tigress, I guess.”
“Excuse me?”
Piccolo turned to meet her confused stare.
“I think it fits, don’t you?”
Chichi’s mouth fell open as she realized what he meant. Tigress…
The next time they were paired up for a mission, her suit sported stripes.
